Ok, Got my new coil today. Put it on and it starts right up. I scurry around getting some tools out of the way so I could pull out on the scooter. Meanwhile scooter siting there warming up. All of a sudden scooter just quits. I suspect no spark again , so I check for spark and NO spark again. What the frig is wrong with this PITA ! Check the wires and all is fine there. What next, The CDI ? Read more: scooterrebels.proboards.com/thread/2688/jcl-250a-dash-lights-start?page=1#ixzz4L86ZJivS

If the coolant stream is not separated from oil supply by any kind of seal what the heck keeps things from mixing ?

Let me answer my own question for someone elses benefit mainly. It was the fuse hidden in the starter relay or starter solenoid to us old schoolers. It is a 20 amp blade fuse. And again it is kind of hidden in the plug I mentioned. You have to unplug said relay to see it. Then believe it or not I started it and it was running fine at an idle when all of a sudden it just quit running Bam ! If I have no spark I bet it is the coil, No ? Hi, I just was wondering if anybody with my bike or Roketa knows whats wrong to save me some diagnostic time. All of a sudden yesterday I went to start my scoot again. The dash lights won't come on and the starter button won't start it. But if I jump my starter relay / solenoid it will start up. But gauges are eratic and wrong . Key all of a sudden has no effect on anything ? What besides my ignition switch would do this. Or is that it, my ignition switch went bad ? Well, I gave it a run test and it only gained about a 1-2 mile per hour. And I lost a pinch of my Jack rabbit start / Hole shot ability. Now it gets up to about 10 MPH before it starts really scooting. Don't get me wrong, It's still plenty acceptable on take off. But it really used to jack rabbit out of the hole before. But, Just remember this was the very first test run. And it never attained 6500 rpm where my max HP is. For some reason I couldn't get it to climb above 6000 rpm at top speed. Can't explain this yet since I actually lightened my rollers which should have made me run higher RPM across the board. I did booger the rollers up a bit when I drilled those 4 I drilled. Maybe they are fouling up a bit trying to very my variator. So, Now I'll have to order those 12 gram sliders I had my eye on to see if that will make it all work ? PS I bet it would FLY LOW with somebody 170 lbs or less on it though right now. Remember I'm 274 lbs. and a head into the wind now. My idea worked on the variator. I worked on it late yesterday afternoon and today. Finally by nightfall tonight I got the modded variator back on the JCL 250 up and running. Well... up and running on the center stand anyway. I wanted to do a static test first to see what the variator was doing and at what RPM. I got my belt all the way out now at about 6600 RPMs I believe. It was getting dark so I didn't see so good even with a drop light. I will redo it tomorrow. I drilled out 1/2 of the 14 gram rollers down to 12 grams. so I have an average of about 13 gram rollers. Truthfully I don't even need sliders now since I'm getting full range with these old beat up drilled out rollers. But I will still buy a set just to complete my refurbishing the variator dealy. The real test is will the belt go all the way out on the variator with my 264 lbs. butt on it. That will be tomorrow to see if I can get any more top end out of it. Update, Just did a warm compression test with loaned comp gauge from Oreiley's . I got 132-135 psi again. My comp tester must be correct I guess. Then did wet test and it bounced up to 150 psi. So my take is rings have some wear and valves might be slightly leaking. And I believe crawford is right when he said I should have about 165 lbs psi engine in good shape.

Now going in another direction which would be better acceleration . I would think that could be done simply by going a gram or two lighter on rollers or even better sliders. And I would bet you could still achieve full contraction on the variator which would give you your same top speed as before the weight change as long as you don't go to light on the rollers / .sliders Read more: thescooterprofessor.proboards.com/thread/4569/gram-sliders-linhia-257cc-260#ixzz4KTfWBP00

Halt on getting sliders or rollers to get more top end on a Linhia 250-300 cc. Turns out the results from my variator marker test ( the point my belt came out to on variator ) is as far as my variator will go for top end. Heavier sliders / rollers can not overcome the mechanical road blocks that are built into my Linhia 257 cc variator after I took a super close look at how it works . "BUT" with some modification to the variator I'm expanding the diameter that it can push the belt out to. So that's why no one would tell me on any of the forums how the slider mod would help or it turns out " Not " help me to get more top end. 15 gram or any other slider weight can not increase top end until you do these couple of simple mods to the variator. Sorry, no pics yet because my camera is down and my cell doesn't take pics, But soon though if anybody is interested. Best of all it cost no $ if you have the right shop tools around.

Just finally got the compression tester from Oreily's. Had to buy it so to speak with promise to return in 48 hrs. for refund. That's how they loan tools around here. Place is full of broke scrounge balls. Anyway, Going to do a cold then maybe hot test. If cold test bounces up to 165 lbs. I will know all is well and no need to do a hot compression test. And if it doesn't do well my money would be on leaky exhaust valve. These cheap arse heads have seats with no steel insert for God's sake ! The super hot exhaust valve closes/seats on raw aluminum ! It would be no wonder the motor has inherent valve recession . I researched pictures of a Linhai 250-300 head on Ebay and came to this conclusion. The exhaust seat in said head sure did look like shiny aluminum to me ?
