Well, I got New Reg/Rec. installed I put LED's in for my dash lights, Not sure I'm gonna like them yet, hard to tell fr sure but they aren't as bright as I had hoped, that could be a good thing though because the lights were actually bright enough before that they kinda bothered me while riding at night.
Anyway, all lights are working great now, I have a 45w headlight bulb and it is pretty dang bright, way better than the 25w that came in the scoot, my rear tail light and turn signals are LED's and work good, I left the standard bulbs in the front turn signals because the ones I had bought to replace them just didn't produce a bright enough light for my likings, I may order some more that have the LED's in a circular position around the bulb base instead of multiple LED's just facing the same direction, that type works great on the rear but not on the front turn signals.
Got my battery on the trikle charger right now gonna leave it on there all night, just to make sure that new battery is all the way up at it's peak charge.
I had ordered Rollers Uni Filter from MonsterGY6.com back on the 10th of July and still have not recieved my parts, so I called and they said they had been on vacation and my parts would ship out today, Dang it just the way it goes but I was sure hoping to get that stuff today or tomorrow, cant wait to get the Uni filter set up and my new exhaust on and maybe go up .5 grams on my roller weight, I have 3 10g and 3 14g rollers installed right now for a total of 12g equiv. it does pretty good but I hit 7500 RPM's @ about 52MPHI would like to get it down to 6800-7000 at that speed so I dont rev so high on the road trips.
I took the sliders out and chunked the so called High performance variator in the tool box I bought from scrappy dod and put my original variator and the rollers in it and it will run circles around the 14g sliders with that "115mm High Performance Variator" not sure about the sliders yet, I will try them again maybe but I'm just not convinced they offer that much bang for the extra buck.....

Hello, Bashan
I got my new reg. today and am fixing to go install it, with the reg completely off my scoot I had dash lights until I reved it up pretty high and zap, a bit of a burnt smell and no more dash lifghts.............I will try to address this as soon as I get the new reg. installed by pulling the dash panel and checking the bulbs whick I'm sure need to all be replaced if hopefully that is all I screwed up when I ran without the reg plugged in......wish me good fortune here, I'm hoping I didnt create another problem when I pulled that now realized stupid stunt......LOL!
Thank you bashan and I will be back in a bit with an update on what I get doen and how thinking work......
Peace

Stick a 150cc in that sucker and be done with it.....
Sounds like lots of work and money gonna be spent on an engine that wont perform any better or as well as a basically stock 150cc with only a couple hundred extra bucks on the 150cc and you would have that scoot doing 65mph and a bunch more torque also.
Now if you plan on doing all you have said here just for the fun of the project and you have the money to through at it reguardless of whether or not it will hang with a 150 in the end.......I say go for it build it as tough as you can and have a great time doing it, but if you want the best performance at the end of your labors then I say do a 150cc swap into that scoot and have some really big fun......!
Good Luck on what ever you do on it and keep those pics coming as you go so we can se what you're getting done, sounds like you're gonna have a lot of fun with that scoot..........!
just my $.02 nothing more, nothing less....

Thanks for the advice on the jet size..... Yep you are so right on the foam filter oil issue, I have 3 Nitro RC vehicles 2 Traxxas Stadium trucks and a 1/8 scale 4x4 Buggy, they all use foam filters and I use a very high quality foam filter oil on them, some people will put K&N Filter oil on the foam filters but I wont because it isnt tacky enough and isnt made for using on foam, it may work on a scoot that never sees dusty sirty conditions but I live in the country on a very dusty dirt road so I have to have all the protection I can get...! I plan to redrill my stock jet to a #120 instead of buying a new one, a #120 Jet can be made out of a stock smaller jet by simply and carefully redrilling it with a 3/64's high quality bit, this is how I rejet the carbs on my motorized bicycles I have built, here is a chart that may help others if they have the tools and would like to redrill there own jets as well. Jet Drill (Requires numberd wire gauge bits for most of the jets) 50 #76 55 #74 approx. 60 #73 65 #71 approx. 70 #70 75 #69 approx. 80 #68 85 #66 approx. 90 #65 95 #63 100 #61 105 #59 110 #57 120 3/64th's130 #55 140 #54 150 #53 160 1/16th's 165 #52 approx. 170 #51 180 #50 185 #49 195 #48 200 #47 205 #46 210 #45 220 #44 225 #43 230 #43 approx (close to 225) 245 #41 250 #40 I know this has some much smaller and much larger jet size reference than we need on the scoots but it could be used for other engines as well so I just included the entire chart. Thanks, Peace Heres a link that has sound of the pipe.... Go up 2 sizes for the filter and 2 for the exhaust so.. #120 sounds really good...might get a #125 to work I would order both... Make certain to oil that UNI filter with foam filter oil... saw a guy the other day that put an un-oiled UNI on this 150cc and the engine lasted 3400 miles... It is the OIL that does the filtering not the foam...

Watched a vid on youtube and really liked the sound of this muffler, will probably need to go to a #120 or #125 jet after installing this pipe with the UNI Filter I also have ordered, my scoot has a #115 in it now but from what I have read i'll be needing to go up a bit more. Anyone else have any experience with this exhaust? Am I in the ball part on the size jet I will likely need when I say #120 or #125? Thanks, Peace Attachments:

The only lights that have ever worked without the engine running on my scoot are the brake lights & tutn signals, headlights and dash lights only come on after engine is running on mine. If you turn the ignition key before you start the engine and the dash lights come on they are powered from the battery...this includes the running lights etc...

I'm glad you informed me about the yellow wire likely being the power source wire from the stator, now maybe I understand even more that it is bound to be my R/R that is the problem, I could start the scoot and as lond as the R/R was plugged in I had NO dash lights but I could start unplugging it to the point that the yellow wire was no longer making contact with the R/R and I had good dash lights, but as soon as the yellow wire made contact with the Reg. terminal the dash lights would go out, only thing that has me a bit puzzled though is where in the heck was I getting power to the dash lights from.......... Is the yellow wire from the Reg. responsible for controling the voltage to the dash lights even though I was getting power to them from another source? Now I'm confused again just a tad...... Peace I'm having a similar issue. Can you tell me this; does your tail light work although the headlights and dash don't? Obviously, not all scooters are going to be wired the same. However, a couple generalizations can be made here regarding this issue. A lot of GY6 scooters are wired with the headlights and many of the other "up front" lights wired into the yellow wire of the stator. That wire is AC and regulated to 12v through the regulator/rectifier (R/R). The yellow lights up with power when the stator starts spinning and then the headlights come on; my 1500cc motorcycle operates in the same fashion. If you unhook the yellow from the R/R the voltage will escalate way past 12v and probably blow some lights or melt something. If your R/R is not doing it's job the same thing can happen. The tail lights are DC and run off of the battery through the ignition switch 100% of the time as far as I know. This is part of the circuit that activates the starter and why you must pull in a brake handle. When you turn on your ignition switch the tail lights come on and are not dependant on the engine starting like the headlights. So in answer to the last question, yes, the headlights and tail lights can be two seperate systems and operate independantly. Rich

Yes my tail lights and turn signals work just fine, and now I know why after bashan explained how they are wired to the battery instead of relying on the stator for their power source. You may need Regulator/Rectifier just like me, sounds like a good possiblity anyway. Good luck and wish me the same on this end....... Peace mapbike, I'm having a similar issue. Can you tell me this; does your tail light work although the headlights and dash don't?

Just checked out the shipping on that reg. from them and it is over $11.00 and it ships from the same state I'm in (Texas)
Scrappydog is in Las Vegas and he will ship to me for just over $5.00 & the Reg. is about $1 less from him, I did look around and found that allchineseparts.com does have a bunch of good stuff at pretty good prices but I think I'm gonna save myself some shipping charges and go with scrappydog on this Reg. plus I have purchased from him sveral times and always got great service and quick shipping....
Thanks again for the link, I have it saved for the future....

Yeah I figured when I reved the engine up like I did the voltage hit the bulbs way to high and burned them out, as to the reg running warm, yeah I figured it would get warm after a minute or two but mine gets so hot you cant hold your finger on it for more than a couple of seconds after only maybe 15-25 seconds of the scooter running, I know that cant be right surely.... Thanks for that link, I have never seen that site before, are they in the US? And have you purchased from them before? Peace

Well I was wrong, Scrappydog does have the reg I need, he just had it listed under common parts instead of under the GY6 150cc section, so I will order one of these right now.........

I took the front nose off my scooter which all of the lights are in and felt of the voltage regulator/rectifier and it had got extremely HOT within just a few seconds of starting the scooter, the head lights were very dim and I had no working instrument lights in the gauges. Then I decided to unplug the voltage reg. and restart scooter, when I did I had instrument lights again but as soon as I pluged the reg back in no lights and it started getting very HOT again in just seconds. It seems to me that I must have a bad votage Reg. Oh and I think I created another problem....ooooops! I unplugged the reg. to see if my dash lights were still working and then reved the engine up, the lights got real bright and then poof... no dash lights and I smelt hot plastic or something just for a second, I think I may have blown out all my dash llight bulbs or maybe a fuse. I rigged up a switch that has my headlights wired direct from the battery power now, it works real good because I used a 3 way switch that way I still have my dim & bright lights on command and when I'm just out riding the back roads around here and dont need a light I can just turn the lights off and take that drain off the battery and charging system. I have included a pic of the reg. that is on my scooter, I looked on scrappydogs site but he doesn't show the one I have so I will be digging around looking for the best deal I can find on a new one. Give me your experienced opinions please...... Thanks Peace Attachments:

Yeah thats what I'll do, battery is staying charged good, brake lights and turn signals are working good and very bright so it must be a bad connection to the headlights that shouldn't be that hard to find I would think, I did some ad on LED running lights and added a toggle switch last year into the wiring that runs the head lights so I'm starting to think that my trouble could be in that area possible.
Thanks for the great advise.....

Thanks fella's I'll be checking all these wires and grounds as soon as I can, I took a 50+ mile round trip today and by the time I got back home my lights are just barely burning a very dim Orange, but what is weird is that my turn signals and brake lights are still very bright just like they should be, it's only the head light and the other 2 #194 bulbs that are on each side of the head lights that are very DIM..! This makes me think I must just have a real bad connection some where going to the head lights. What do you fella's think? Peace, Shan

Yeah you make a good point about the pressure possible multiplying or something, it is like you said weird, I even talked to my Dad this evening about it and he said that he couldn't figure it out either, I road the scoot WOT most of 20 miles today and not a single bit of oil loss with the short tube hooked back to the air box........Wow this has me scratching my head wondering what the heck would make adding an extra 18-20" of hose cause such a vacuum are whatever it is that seems to draw the oil out like it does. Oh well, I'll just make me a catch can or I may do what you did and just use a piece of tubing about stock length and put a good fuel filter on it to catch the oil vapor as it condenses back to liquid. I wanted to vent mine farther back and away from things because I live in the country and ride on extremely dusty dirt roads and I do mean extrememely dusty Caliche roads around here, stuff is as fine or finer than talk powder and gets in and on everything, this is a real challenge for one of these scoots because everything stays covered in dust all the time unless it is washed off or blown off constantly, so I have to make sure everything is fixed so I can keep the dust out as good as possibleand still get adequate air flow to and around the engine. Thanks for the tip and convesation on this trouble I had I really appreciate any and all help and hope I can offer the same from time to time. Peace Huh.. really weird. I wonder if the long hose caused a back pressure and prevented the v-cover from venting... It is suppose to puff, puff, puff out of that vent perhaps with the long hose the first 'puff' hadn't cleared the hose when the second and third puffs one came along... I just have mine about 12" long and I stock a fuel filter on the end and zip tie it to the frame up high so any oil in it runs back into the engine...I change the filter every 3-4 oil changes...
