My factory rollers were 8g, I put in Dr. Pulley sliders 6g. There was no change in top end speed (I didn't pay attention to RPM) but my speed off of the line made a major leap. It's still impressive to be honest. Just the top end I've messed up somehow, and I've tinkered back and forth with idle and a/f adjustments trying to find sweet spots. I used the pepsi can method for adjusting valves but I don't think that would affect it; I will be re-adjusting when I get some real feeler gauges. That spark plug may have something to do with it; dropped it and bent it, had to bend it back so had to re-gap it and only used a dime and my eye to measure the gap/adjust it to half the width of the dime or about .75mm.

I did have that out during that big problem and I had put it back on wrong; bent the needle plus this one has a little tab on the diaphragm that lines up with a little recessed area. I double-checked with the carb out for freedom of movement after straightening the needle and that was good, but I could have the diaphragm (tab notwithstanding) slightly off so I'll check that tomorrow. I was excited; went out for a 1:30 am ride and hit a max 37 gps; didn't realize it was the wind getting me there; max coming back was 29, into the wind. But I'm 6'5 250 with no windshield so that doesn't help top end, either on a 49cc.

Ok thank you, checking that now. I had my idle set awfully low, too; probably unrelated but you know the standard thing of getting the rear wheel turning and then backing it down just til it stops? That puts me up at like 3k rpm chinameter, probably 2.5k actual vs. the advised 1.9k. Ok just got back; no slack in the throttle. Motion of less than 1/8th inch moves it so the cable is tight.

We're not concerned about ownership laws. Once we post our photos, there is sort of an unwritten rule and common knowledge that the privacy of that photo is essentially void and if you wanted to keep it private, you shouldn't have posted it. We're just having a little fun; some of us keep up with friends on FB so it's an easy way to keep a couple of fingers on the pulse of scooters, and this forum and any others are free to come recruit new members, too.

Ok. I just thought 6k rpm was awful low Chinameter. I don't know what I did except what I mentioned (removed and lightly cleaned carb; may have reconnected hoses too loose or too tight, throttle cable slightly off). Whatever I did cost me 4mph top end I guess those warm months will be bbk time; I'll watch 20 videos before i ever even order one because I can't stand to be down for long! Thanks Alleyoop. EDIT: Hope I understood you right and you weren't asking how I measured speed. If you were, I only use Ulysses GPS (I've tested with others to ensure Ulysses works accurately, then just stuck with it on my Android phone).

On my cy50a, since my most recent problem, I've lost top end speed. It wasn't great before that, but something I've done has made it worse.
Shouldn't I be able to get at least 8k rpm on the Chinameter? I'm only getting to about 6100. I know in general what types of things can improve top speed, but I don't know what I've done to slow it. It's possible that the nuts holding the throttle cable in place at the carb are not in the same position along the threads as they were; would that affect it? Or should I really super-tighten the clamps around the hoses for intake manifold and air intake? I also adjusted valves and now have a slight tick which is ok from what I've read.
I have no restrictions that I know of (CDI isn't restricted, no washer in variator area) except maybe a tight exhaust. I don't wanna be too greedy; just happy the thing is running, but with my CDI, high quality oil, 93-only fuel and religious use of Seafoam, along with my Dr. P sliders (6g), shouldn't I be able to get 35-40 mph gps out of this scooter? Tonight I got to 35 with a strong wind at my back; average was 30. Used to be 34 at least average.

Please come like our page and join the group (two separate places... I'm trying to get more people into the group so everybody's post get equal "real estate"). It's just a way to get snapshots of what's going on in the scooter world--won't be a place like this where you can find solutions. Just a fun little quick thing if you're on Facebook anyway. Ok thank you. My kick is aligned perfectly horizontal so I don't think it's too low, so I'll check the marks.

Alleyoop, because it's related to this I thought I'd toss it into the thread; when you're fitting that gear into place, is there a way to adjust it so that you get more than one or two full "turn overs" per kick? I actually only get one right now. (Sound = blum blum, when it should be many more blums).

if you were getting depressed after 3 days of the scooter being down . You need a moderate amount of spare parts . Coil, CDI ,spark plug , oil filter cap , starter solinoid , intake manifold , exaust gasket , studs and nuts . The above parts have ko ed most of us for a week !!! anybody agree ? John I believe that. One thing I know I need is screws and bolts; I've lost some over time. That and some type of chart that shows exactly which screws/bolts go where or at least the size of them. I have yet to find that in the 6 months or so I've been looking. So, now, I've occasionally used screws too big for some holes or plastic screws where metal screws should go, which hasn't presented a functional problem (yet) but bugs me. I will start stocking up on those things you mentioned but it'll be a slow process for me.

I though about adding a "vent" with rubber boot in to the plastic "bucket" so it can relieve the heat. I thought about that too; maybe drilling a couple small holes on the bottom portion so it would still keep water out but let some of the heat escape. Wonder if that would be bad; they must have it semi-air-tight for a reason.

Already took it out ghost hunting; half assembled Running great; throttle sticking open but I expected it because when I put the carb back in, I didn't seat the end of the throttle cable perfectly. I know most of you guys get it; I could drive anywhere. I sold my Explorer but I could drive my g/fs wherever. There's just no joy in it. Put me on a little 49cc Scoot and I'm freakin' 8 years old in every way. I was ACTUALLY getting depressed after only being down for about 3 days. So, seriously, thank you Bashan, terrilee, John, Alleyoop, and buford and if I missed anybody, I'm sorry. Technically I have to give the biggest nod to Bashan for pointing me back to the red wire/stator area (And Scooterdoc's diagram/troubleshooting list) after Bashan and buford both insisted on spark issues, which I would never have checked again since they were sparking yesterday. I wasn't thinking along those lines... I was three inches away from ordering a bbc and hoping for the best. Anyway, I wanna give back. I do give back on the other forum when I can but this forum... I don't know--you guys just seem crisper in your troubleshooting efforts. So, should I create a full narrative of what I did right and wrong with this problem and post it as some type of example of how one can end up chasing a wild goose while troubleshooting? Awesome guys. Now all I have to do is get everything secured again and re-adjust idle and a/f.

Only one problem; I got two quarter-sized washers that fell off of something during disassembly and I can't effing figure where they go. Help? Want to ride NOW!

WHOOO! WHOooo! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Cracka happy! If I was a flightless pengiun, I'll be all airborn but it would sound terrible like old people clapping hands while falling down stairs. WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO@@@@@ She runs again!!!!! So it was the red wire, because once I finally tore it apart and was testing the red wire thinking, "Obviously it's not this; I'm slamming it together and it won't run," during that short amount of time, my CDI wasn't plugged in right as John noted. My next six children will be named John Alleyoop Bashan Kierstead! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!!!
