I've done the 11 pole Stator/7 Wire Regulator mod. I'm running the stock headlamp but on dc using a relay that is triggered of the white wire on the R/R. I have also changed the flasher relay with an electronic relay(to avoid having to use a load resistor in conjunction with an all LED setup) My only deviation is I am keeping the headlamp relay near the R/R and CDI. I have noted my deviation from the directions found on this site. When I run the bike now my and turn my hazards on at idle they flash normal speed. When revving past idle the flash rate speeds up. After a bit the main fuse(10 amp) blows. I've tried measuring voltage with my digital meter at the battery and get normal readings with the bike off, but once I start it my display changes voltages rapidly up and down. I'm stuck here and dont know what to check next.

Joy :/
Guess I'm chasing down shorts in the wiring.

Tests done. With bike running i have idle@3500rpm(normally 2k but obviously the enricher isn't kicking in) Yellow wires from stator with meter inserted in series: L1 25v AC L2 24v AC L3 29v AC With bike not running: No continuity between L1 & Ground, L2 & Ground or L3 & Ground With bike not running: I have continuity in all scenarios(pics of these 3 tests attached) L1<->L2, L1<->L3 and L2<->L3 If I have this right than I need a new stator and another new RR

Hey everyone, I'm gonna need some help to figure this one out. I have a 150CC scoot that I had converted to the 11 pole stator and 7 wire VR back in the spring, the bike was brand new at that point. The other day all A/C stopped working(no headlight and no brake running light, DC brake circuit works though). I stripped down the plastics and started in with the multimeter. I was getting no voltage off the stator with the VR hooked up but as soon as I disconnect the VR I got 30VAC approx at idle off the stator between 1 phase and ground. I ordered an new VR and installed it, had A/C power for a few minutes then nothing again. VR was a little warm but not hotter than the VR on an exact duplicate working bike(that has the same stator/VR upgrade) So my question is do I have a bad stator or would it probably be the new VR is DOA? Or am I missing something else entirely? Any help would be appreciated. My GF is anxious to get my bike up and running so we can ride together again before winter

Luke, so far the longest ride we have done was about 72 miles to visit with my sis and bro-in-law and then home. The trip took us through 9 towns and the GPS says we hit 52mph as a Max speed on the trip. The valve stems on them are metal and they seem solid but when we go today to get our inspection sticker at the power sports shop I will have them check them. We do carry a 12v air compressor on her scoot and a 12v impact wrench in mine.
The next trip will be later this week, we are riding from home(central mass) to a friends house in Southern NH for an all night round of Magic the Gathering. The most difficult part will no not having the luxury of bringing a Duffel bag full of magic card decks, we will have to probably have to pick just a few decks each to bring.

Thanks drifter. I've already replaced every vac and gas line on both bikes and they are all secured with quality hose clamps. I've already got a few comments from some other riders about green el wire halo mod I did to my headlight and the purple flourescent ground effects. I'll post some pics of them when I get some pics after it gets darker this evening.

So, after spending 4 hours at the register getting our motorcycle permits, registering, titleing and getting insurance my GF and I went for our first ride yesterday! Now that we are up and running it's gonna be difficult trying to keep the trips local and short while we break them in, LOL

davec
A lucky gal actually :-)
We can't wait to ride together. Heading down to register and insure them later this week.
So far I have 8 hours into mine, and I figure I probably have 24 more hours left to put into it. I already have it stripped of all plastics and the horns, horn relay, flasher relay and all the leds lights in. Oh, and the engine and gear oil changed.

Finished putting my GF's new scooter back together and took it for it's maiden ride down the street and back. It was a relief it started right up on the first try seeing as I've never done any work on a scooter before. I made modifications to the CVT, charging system and ignition system on a brand new machine so there were all kinds of places for something to go wrong, LOL.

Luke Thanks for the welcome. I have been careful having fueled scooter in the house(adding only a few ounces, no extra fuel in the house, 2 fire extinguishers nearby, ventilation) Dave Well, the funny thing is, the '55 is hers And the scooters will never end up in the garage as that is where her '69 Buick lives. That's why we are putting up a shed to house the scooters. As a side note, I forgot to mention that I also replaced all the fuel line with Armormark fuel line, and the LED upgrade also required the installation of an electronic relay to combat fast flashing. I just grabbed an Novita EP36 from the local Autozone to use. Dual Horn kit from Harbor Freight(came with the relay too) Turn Signal Relay and LED bulbs(all from autozone except for baggie with 2 amber wedges from SuperBrightLEDs) New CDI and R/R
