You're doing a great job so far. By the time Alley gets done pounding on your brain, you will know what you're doing on carbs as well.

Any graphic artists out there that would care to donate time to this? We could add animated graphics to it that show exactly what they should be looking at.
Of course it's not a perfect idea, but.... Who knows, it could solve a lot of problems for many. And if nothing else, it would be a great diagnostic tool for the rest of us.

About a thousand or so years ago when I was a dashing young genius, I was teaching a computer class. I used to have the students write this guessing game. Guess the Animal.
The program would ask you if it was a mammal and if you said yes, it would guess Tiger. If you said No, it would ask for a question that would determine the difference between Tiger and whatever animal you chose. Eventually it would learn enough answers to figure out any animal you could come up with in just a few questions.
Why can't we do this same thing with scooter diagnostics? It may not always get everything right, but it would take care of the basics right off. It would eliminate asking stuff like, Did you put gas in it?
Now, if we did try this, the questions have to be grouped into logical patterns. With animals, they are in genus, species, type, color, .... You get the idea.
Ideas? Questions? Comments?

Good question Pete. What was the weather like on the 3 or 4 days it started right up? Rain? Snow? Cold, hot? Also, what kind of gas do you have in it? Fresh? Old? Ethanol mix?
Obviously the usual fixes are not working, so lets look at the unusual. Did there happen to be a hottie in a bikini in view when it started right up?

Yep. I have nothing against trikes, but as long as God lets me, I'll be on 2 wheels instead. But if I hit that point, you better bet I'll be on a trike.

Looks like mine. Got a picture of the bike?
If it's the same as mine, there is a connector inside the 'dash' box where all the speedo and lights are. That's where your plug goes.

The easiest way to fix this is to replace the ignition with a new one. Maybe $20 and a couple of hours and you're done.

The engines are actually designed with a 'cost sensor' in them. The cheaper the fuel you use the worse the performance you get. The sensor actually triggers a series of small servos which in turn move small scraps of metal into the path of critical moving parts inside the crankcase. These servos are designed to look like important parts so that if you ever get the nerve to open the engine up you won't be able to tell which parts to remove and which to leave there. Although it won't matter, because they are worked in so that by removing one of them, you cause a chain reaction that destroys the engine from the inside out.
My advice? Pour 5 gallons of the cheapest gas you can get all over it and see how high it flies when you toss a lit match on it.

I know you go for trikes, but man... VStar 1100 is a nice set of 2 wheels. Too bad you had to add a third.
