Very true, same is true in the 4 wheel world. Top gear used to be pretty good at normal reviews until they went silly and drove to the north pole (which to be fair was impressive) and now only review zonda's. Seriously, if you want a normal, cheap, sensible reliable bike your only option is a suzuki, god help us. I fancy a bonneville or a speed triple instead. An old thunderbird would be fun but parts are a pita, failing that a commando would be good. In the absence of a sensibly choice you may as well pick a fun daft choice.
A 1400 is not, in the real world, going to be significantly better at anything other than destroying rubber and gas than a decent 750 or even 900. Riding ability would easily make up for any difference. Yes a busa might top a few extra mph but seriously, outside of a track, whats the point. Many of the owners dont get over a ton and only then for bragging rights. Life at over 140mph might be fun but only in the reinforced pants department.
Ah well , back to drooling over classics lol

There is definately a market for something that does 50mpg, can do 110mph, can comfortably do a long trip and can do a commute day in day out, reliable and simple. The 400 4, cb400 is that. Quick, simple, reliable , economical and agile. The only similar thing in this market right now is the suzuki and frankly I'd be much happier with the honda or a kwaka version. I guess the market is pushing towards insane rockets or mobile sections replete with microwaves, porta potties and flat screens.

75f, no tsunamis or tropical monsoons but still the depths of winter. Rode to ace yesterday at 6.45am, was actually cold at 50mph before the sun way up (in shorts an t shirt). It's really funny watching those that are used to the heat have the heaters on in their car (really) when it drop sunder 80f. I am sure they think the same when I have ac on whenever its above 80.

In thr us market the ninja had that segment to itself for so long, maybe the cbr will push them into adding efi to the twin ? The kawaka just looks so much nicer (in green of course!)

They just need to bring back the 400 to the us market. Its the perfect first real bike (coming from a country where you had to learn on a 125 or under), reliable as hell, fast enough without being stupid, fairly comfortable, basic enough to wrench and cheap to buy. Right now what are your options, the 250's or the suzuki's (400 & 500 right?) then 650's, only suzuki cover the midrange, the rest are obsessed with 1400cc coffin stuffers. Just finished reading it, great write up, I'd have to go for the kawaka, just a great bike!

ok soooo, tail end wiring half fixed, engine oil change done, gear oil change to do and fixing the autochoke to do.
Am I right in thinking that if the autochoke is not wired up then it will not be enriching the fuel flow at startup i.e. the machine will in effect be running lean. I have a sneaking suspicion that the potted plant who assembled the scoot at the b&m place (which rents them out as well, scary!) ran it rich and upped the idle to make up for any issues on startup which would be less noticeable anyway due to the normally warm temps. I am leaning towards a manual choke, its not rocket science to operate one, I'll have to see how the auto choke does when its actually connected (or am I being crazy and it is supposed to not be connected?). Any thoughts before I wire it into the harness? Again, thanks for all the assistance! Its hugely appreciated!

Soooooo, after battling the ridiculous wiring job the ape at the garage created at the rear end of the scooter I decided to quickly check the autochoke. I didn't actually need to remove it, it wasn't plugged in to anything. Not that there is anything to plug it into, the wiring is just neatly bundled up. I shall attempt to rig a splice from the yellow wire from the stator and ground the other and see how much having a working autochoke improves things. I have a sneaking suspicious they simply set it to run rich and idle high and just left it. freaking jokers.

Sounds about right! Makes more money, engine placement means folks are more likely to take it to a dealer to fix, plus longer job = more labour $. The scoots seemed fine, mid tier propositions, very big on chicago, very little on the taiwan connection. Lots of Harleyesque branded add ons. It's a brand, I don't believe they own any factories so there is little capital there but I hear about them more and more and whilst it wasnt the scoot for me it was ok. Some folks assume american made and they dont go out of their way to stop people assuming. Could be money there, could also be a moneypit, thats just part of the game You could always go to a broker with foreign investment funds and just drop some money on asian automotive sector funds. Perhaps american manufacturing will make a comeback and we will see well made, reliable and innovative usa made scoots! stranger things have happened!

I would invest in oil companies but I take no responsibility for that advice lol. Shipping is doing well these days as well. It is possible to make some decent money by betting on trends, I have done the same with amd and nvidia in the past (and skb) but it is a risk. Investment advice is always risky, if you have any debt at all that is usually the best way to spend your money, ROE on buying honda shares over say 5 years on the hope they pickup some value on increasing oil costs quite risky. My personal approach, if I had the money, would probably be to pick someone small with potential. The genuine scooter company springs to mind, they sell cheap scooters for big price tags. I don't doubt that they are well built, and a sensible limited range (unlike roketas 400 mostly identical models), but with a warranty, dealer network and finance. The put the branding and business around pretty cheap scoots and ramped the price accordingly. They might tank, but they have potential. I wouldn't personally invest in the big names if I was looking for big gains, if i wanted banker stocks that would track a few points above inflation sure, but for making some maitai money I would roll the dice on a smaller company with a clever business plan. Genuine scooters sell alongside hondas and yamahas, have a 2 yr warranty, have finance in house and the same type of dealer agreements (required floorspace etc). Do you own due diligence but that would be my first pick Under the skin theyre not expensive scooters, theyre probably made very cheaply but with a bit more polish and qc. I think theyre made in taiwan by PGO? If you are going to dabble in stocks I hope you have a pair of red suspenders and a cambridge shirt, dressing stupidly is required!
