I know this will stir up comments. I keep all my titles in a fireproof box in a secure closet. I'm amazed how people just toss them in harm's way with no regard for the future. Craigslist is just crawling with "No title". No stirring up at all. I keep mine somewhere safe (another property), what I'm required to keep with the scoot (insurance card and reg, not title) is taped under the seat so I know its there. CL is just as bad here, mopeds, scooters, bikes, cars all listed with "no papers, selling for a friends, he said theyre really easy to get". Crazy. You can actually get papers, I think you had to advertise the details publicly, give people a chance to claim it back etc then you can get papers remade but its not all the cheap and usually not worth it for the type of vehicle. Some folks are just irresponsible and/or stupid.

yup i have them all..uk version Yeah, the US version isn't quite as good. Love the UK version though. BBC America shows it all the time. The US version needs to stop trying to be exactly like the UK version and just have some fun. Theres actually 2 versions of UK top gear, both great in their own ways. 'Old' UK topgear was basically a normal car review show, reviewing bog standard saloons etc, buying tips. It was good, useful etc. Then they sold the format to another program which was renamed 5th gear with some different presenters (and I think one of the same, Tiff). 'New' UK topgear is the one you are used to, driving to the north pole (my fave ever episode) and supercars etc. Great show

The SH was insanely priced. The CBR 250 and reintroduced Rebel are cheaper, faster and get the same mpg. <snip> I'd hope they get with the program and bring back the Glory, and Fashion too. The 650 bike looks nice but the world doesn't need more Ninjas. There's too many around as it is (kz1000st, apologies for the snip, just wanted to pick two parts out, hopefully i left enough context I just went shopping for a bike, scoot or dualsport. I didn't actually care which, I was shopping for the best deal for cash in hand. A visit to kawasaki was a shock, they wanted 6200 USD OTD for a ninja 250! They weren't prepared to discount anything more than a few bucks and that was the low price, it cost more if I wanted the special edition tarmac coloured one. All the scoots on sale seemed to be significantly cheaper, the genuine scooter 220 thing was under 4k OTD. The two aren't exactly the same but ballpark as close as a scoot and crotch rocket are going to be. There weren't any cbr's at honda. The rebel 250 was closer to its msrp but tiny. The silverwing was tres expensive! I can see why honda would want to drop the 150, not because of sino imports as TBH people with 900 to spend weren't going to buy the honda, but the likes of kymco, sym etc producing serious contenders for less (but not pocket change) money was probably hurting them. Oh and having played on a few ninjas, relived some zxr days, the world can never have enough ninjas They just need to sell them at more sensible prices. CFMoto may just be taking a few models out of the lineup for a year or two, either to revamp or play out inventory. It's not like manufacturers haven't done that in the past. The burgy 400 didn't happen in the US in 2010 (actually suzuki didn't import much by way of sports bikes that year) so its possible they will be back. CFMoto will have sunk money into r&d and production lines for those bikes. The 650's sound interesting! I was going to get a jetmax now they're arriving, but I had a good year and got a shot at a cheap burgy 400 (6700 OTD new) sorry cookies! you were on my list to call. Also nearly took home a dzr400 until I found the burgy. As for switching to scoots, maybe life on the island with $5 gas and generally hot (but often crazy wet and windy) weather and high costs of living affect peoples choices but scoots are increasing more popular here. 50cc mopeds are like flies (and unfortunately get swatted just as often by trucks) round here. I don't doubt there will be folks who will have to be prised from their navigators with c4 and cattle prods but plenty of people are figuring out that rather than go from a 2 car to a 1 car family when times are tough they can go to 1 car and a scoot. And some of us will always have em just for fun !! Oh and the rocket A 'junker' is still alive (just, or at least its easy to resuscitate ), tough to beat something like that on price to buy and run.

I'm about the same 6'2 and 220 although with original hips I need a long board as well lol. SUPing is good fun though, still need a huge board. Not sure what wind conditions you would have to deal with but here the side winds would be a serious issue for a longer wider board. The piaggio at least has some decent power to it so you could mitigate a lot of the danger just by knowing your route well and being able to predict when you will get hit by wind.

2008? really? wow I thought it was much much older, back in the old top gear shows before they sold the format to 5th gear which would make it pre 2000.

Plenty of them here but nobody with a board that size! The supb guys don't tend to carry them on mopeds due to the size and it becoming a sail. I would imagine longboards would be the same. You are probably a lot safer with a shortboard, much less chance of it catching the wind and changing your lane for you. Whilst I doubt there is a specific law preventing it, there are likely to be several 'vague' laws which could be applied should the trooper wish to do so (overloading a vehicle? etc).

I was being genuine, you were right, but I think we are discussing different things, not to mention comparing a 1000 cc sports bike to a scoot What would I take away from that statement (given I didnt make it I think lol) was that on a scoot you have more variable foot placement? You can ride frank spencer style knees together or knees out wide and feet forward or feet back. You can get some of that on different style bikes but not all. It's valid to compare a bike to a scoot, but each has qualities that may rule the other out so if you ask is x worth it you wont get a unanimous reply as each reply is tailored to each persons need. If you want an auto box and to spend under 5k you are buying a scoot. If you want to scrape pegs with ton up cornering you want a crotch rocket. If you want to replace everything in your life with merchandise from your bike maker you want hd Scoots make no sense for some people, bikes make no sense for others and nobody is wrong, just different. I stand by my comments re not understanding the wheel choices on their range. The extra $ may not be justified by the small displacement upgrade for everyone but for some it may just be. The relative lack of 400's out there no doubt has helped them be able to price like that. The answer is because they can it will most likely sell well. I also think some of the price reflects refinements in the design.

How long before we might see these for sale? 17 inch wheel auto bikter (or scike?) should be a very interesting buy.

It was so funny in england when the new mini came out, all mini drivers wave to each other its some kind of law. The 'new' mini drivers didn't get the waves they were expecting. It's not a mini if you don't have to run the heater in hot weather to cool the engine!

Very well said 89 KZ, only it isnt a bike is it Its hugely naff compared to a tvr, both of which you could pick up in the same price bracket (very) used. I just think there range cannot figure out what its supposed to be, they have a sporty city scooter with plenty of storage and big wheels for freeway riding? and they have a touring maxi scoot with less storage than you get flying to the Okavango Delta and mid sized wheels. People get a scoot because of what makes it a scoot right? no gears, riding position, storage etc. Yes you can add bags to a bike, and there are classic riding position bikes to be had an even auto box bikes, but intrinsically people are saying I want a tool to get from a to b, not I want a toy for scraping pegs. Yes bikes make more sense to some people, they are the better choice for some people, but not everyone. One thing that I saw in the reviews was that there were some more subtle improvements (braking?) over the 250, so perhaps the price increase is not solely limited to the increased displacement, just how the burger 400 is substantially different under the skin than the 600 burger? I get the no leg room, I just dont get it paired up with a scoot that can't decide if its a tourer or a sports scoot as it has traits of each, just like their actual touring scoot? Perhaps its the weight or wheel base suggesting the need for the bigger wheels? It just seems they have some schizophrenic scoots in their lineup.

Most crotch rocket riders wave back here, as do scoots. HD's aren't bikes, theyre tractors somebody forgot to put all the wheels on. They just seem to attract a certain crowd for the most part. Biggest issue here is drunk cagers, I don't get how its ok to drink for 6 hours in a bar and drive home? It's not like theyre hard to spot, theyre the ones doing 1/4 of the speed limit and still unable to keep it in the lane.

Thats the big issue with this scoot. It has 16 inch wheels, which shouts high speed stability not low speed manoeuvrability, yet a cramped/restricted city style riding position? The xciting is the reverse, so put the 16 inch wheels on the xciting and make it a proper touring maxiscoot and put smaller wheels (say 14 inch) on the people, 'gear' it for acceleration and its a city bike. Oh and put some storage on the xciting lol and HID lights.

For the sake of lively discourse here's how little sense $5400 for a 300cc scooter is. www.suzukicycles.com/Product%20Lines/Cycles/Products/GS500F/2009/GS500F.aspx?category=sportbike#SpecsFor a thousand dollars less you can buy a bigger motorcycle from Suzuki, outfit it with saddlebags and have a real highway capable machine with unquestionable ability to last for decades with normal maintenance. Before Kawasaki stopped making it the 500 Vulcan sold for $5400. With a windshield and bags it was easily a better machine than a People 300. Thats kind of my point I looked for a 400 for ages, theres only the suzuki out there I think. If the old honda 400 4 or the yama 400 etc was about I highly doubt kymco would even consider selling the scoot at that price.

turtle, not exclusively at you no harm done, just sometimes there is a blinkered view about whats right round here, apologies if i took it the wrong way. For the sake of likely discourse, sure the bike is cheaper, thats obvious, they usually are cc for cc and more powerful with differently tuned engines (not many scoots rock 16k rpm). But you give up a cvt and storage and a different riding position. For some folks thats a plus, for some a minus. The big maxi scoots (400-600cc) tend to be in the 6.5-9k + OTD stuff making them quite an expensive proposition new. Plus they do not have the greatest of records with inherent design faults (the burgers have had some wicked design issues, especially the 400, and the schwing seems to have a wobble issue in some bikes). The whole, is this pushing the price a little thing is totally valid, but you have to compare like to like. Are there new scoots out there similar in most ways that are cheaper, yes sym undercut kymco by about 12-15% although your model may be a little singed! Since the majority of the midrange 400 type models dissappeared from the market leaving pretty much just the burger 400 which is a 'prestige marque' priced accordingly, there has been very little to keep down the price of the lower scoots. The real question will come if sym get the maxsym 400 out the door for under 6k, then a 5.4k 300 starts to look very dodgy. I did ask before about the pricing on the jetmax, suggesting that perhaps 4k for a 250cc chinese maxiscoot wasn't reaching a little (and there were some very compelling, eloquent counter arguments made which was great) considering it put it pretty much in the sym price range. I guess kymco is doing that same? There is a bit of a buzz in the photography world today as Sigma who make some fairly decent gear but second tier stuff mostly priced to undercut the big boys, just released a camera that was supposed to be around 1.5k for 9.7k USD. Yup $9700.00. Same thing, they are pushing it. Unfortunately they have had a bit too much bolivian marching powder and are likely to fall flat on their faces as there are already significantly better cameras in the same price range. Kymco may find the same issue. Comparing old to new is semi valid, in that yes you could buy either, each has their own +'s and -'s, dealer support, warranty, finance etc vs it already depreciating. However, depreciation like negative equity only affects you if you want to sell or refinance. If you are keeping the bike for 15 years, who cares about depreciation If you like to flip every few years it will hurt you hard and better buy a couple of years old. On Maui you are insane to buy used. Depreciation just doesnt exist. The local Kia dealer wanted 7k for a 6 year old base model base spec'd kia with 65k on the clock that barely cost 10k new The burger listed above is something I would seriously consider, as would the schwing, but some folks do just want something that is 0 though, its a tool, you walk out the door and it works, if it doesnt the dealer fixes it free of charge whilst you have a courtesy bike. A newer bike, once out of the teething stage should give less problems than an older bike / scoot, but how much may be marginal with a good bike. Is 5400 too much, for that bike, for me? yes. but its really two questions right? Is it overpriced for what it is, and is it overpriced for what it offers each person.
