Rich, you got me thinking about your remote admin conundrum. What if you stripped his software down to bare bones, then had him remote in to a computer that physically is in your possession? That way, you've turned the tables. It sounds like he needs restricted access and you need full, even hands-on, access. You send him a refurb $100 machine from TigerDirect and have him send you the one you built. Take every single application off his physical machine and leave him only with a Remote Desktop icon. If you wanted to get super crazy with it, you could only allow him to remote into a virtual machine, which you could just fry whenever he loads it up with malware.
My kids are still a little too young to have unsupervised computer time, but a buddy of mine does something similar with his kids. He has a virtual XP machine that is the only means of connecting to the internet. He doesn't even run anti-virus on it. He keeps a ghosted image of the machine and "flashes" it with the ghosted image every couple weeks...good as new again.

Rich, Your answer is MS Security Policies. Look'em up. You can lock him out of anything you want. It's not difficult, just a bit time consuming at first.
Faceplanter, Ever hear of a cold solder joint? No it's not a place old drunk hookers hang out looking for innocent soldiers... It's when the wave guide solder machine missed a connection and as it heats up it moves apart. It used to be fairly easy to fix. The heat gun treatment you mentioned was popular. Nowadayz, it's most likely inside the IC itself. It happens. Nothing is perfect. I'd almost bet you have a faulty GPU chip. It would explain everything. RAM is made to get hot, so that's unlikely to be the problem. Take the screw on clamps off the GPU and clean it off. Put a piece of thermal paper on top of it and power up the board. If the paper turns black then you know the problem.
Had a computer biz for 24 years. Man I hate that stuff. I'd rather just ride with my guitar from one gig to the next all the time.
*singing* Yeah baby, I got dem X-box 360 blues... The thing got me twitchin all my moves... It's the old story baby 'bout a dollar teasin' the man.... Oh yeah...... *

Great ideas, I will look into that tomorrow!
But the Java thing...what is up with that? I researched this and Java says it asks for an update about once a week?! This damn thing pops up two...three times a day. I set up the java console for my clients and put it on the desktop. I tell them to click on that instead of the damn pop up. I have set up some serious security protocols...Eset, System Mechanic, MSE, I can't think of the rest, but it keeps popping up! I've followed the URL and most of the time it LOOKS like Oracle but who the hell knows. This thing is becoming a PITA. You got any thoughts Plant Guy? What's your real name anyway? No disrespect meant, Rich My actual name is Jasen. And if you don't want Java to bother you, you can disable the. Java check for update services through MSCONFIG. In all honesty I run 5 versions of Java behind all the time and I've still yet to get infected with anything. Nobody uses Java to create an infection. Nobody.

I don't think it's Java, I think it's one of those worms that fakes a company's logo. For a while there was a Norton update popup that looked real as hell. I know because one of my help clicked on it and trashed one of my work computers. Best buy wanted $200.00 to get rid of it. That's why I started taking classes. But I figure why take a chance on the Java popup, just go to the console and click update and there's no risk. I just find it suspicious it comes up that much. I tried to trace the URL and can't get anywhere with it so for a couple clicks I don't have to worry about it. Rich

There is a difference between Java and JavaScript like you mentioned. You can disable javascript through the MSCONFIG but there is a lot easier way.
Oracle Java is a add on which can be disabled through the "manage add on's section.
Disabling javascript will make this forums provider software virtually useless. Too many functions here run off of javascript.

Exactly, you can continue to run Java script, which just about everything in the world uses now on web sites, and safely update by going directly to the Oracle site to update. As Jack says, don't disable your Java, just update it safely. That's my opinion, I removed more than a few worms from client's computers that said they didn't have any trouble until they clicked on that persistent Java update popup. They clicked on it to get rid of it....that was a mistake. I'm not saying it's Java, or Oracle...it's a fake! Sometimes it's legit....sometimes it's a money maker for me. Come to think of it.....click on it...then call me, it's $80.00/hour, and I'm cheap. Rich

You can disable it here to get rid of that damn pop up but then you can't post. Popup's have to be the most obnoxious thing you can do to a forum.
edit: And this is the only forum I go to that has popup's

Go to any website you want that uses HTML coding and hit the old F12 button and see how many javascript codes and functions a site uses.
