I don't know call me hard but I learned this lesson a long time ago and I mean a long time ago. IMO the people that are mooching (and that's what it is) off of you are playing you and taking advantage of you. JR That's a fact Jack, agree 110%. It might seem cold but people treating you like that are cold. I'm not saying anything about you and your brother Genseeker, it is somewhat different with family and you seem comfortable with what is going on. But you seem to be under some financial stress right now and who is helping you out? Anybody? Anybody that you helped out? It's the old one way street.
Her profile says female Luke, I don't know which one you're looking at but it's not hers. And Gen, ignore the sexist comments about female mechanics, he's trying to push your buttons. Aren't you Luke? Who's a bad boy?!.....Who's a bad boy?!.....You're a bad boy! Rich

Hehe, I know he is. I just love it when guys try that though, some guys can't stand the idea of a woman knowing how to fix mechanical stuff. When I was doing the front end on my Ford truck, had a guy sit & watch me off & on for over 3 hrs. When I was done, he came over & introduced himself, then asked me out. Said he'd told his momma if he ever met a woman could work on cars, he wanted to marry her. Didn't take him up on the offer though, I have an age limit for dating and he was wayyyy under it, don't think he was even 25 yet. I even got propositioned by one of my sons' friends but I won't date anyone more than 10 yrs younger than me. My boys will be 21 & 22 this yr & their friend is 24.
My momma went back to college when I was in high school, she studied industrial mechanics & got her degree, then went to work for Lowes Hardware in a warehouse job driving forklifts, till she got hurt when an idiot ran into her and pinned her between his forklift and a conveyor system.
Wanna know something weird bout my family? I have 2 brothers named John & both middle names start with "H". John Herbert born Oct 1970 & John Henry born June 1974. John Herbert is my half-brother & his momma put him up for adoption when he was born. He never got to meet our daddy but we see him about once a year. And the best part is, the Johns could pass for twins, even with the 4 yr age difference.
I done decided I ain't loaning nobody else no money & that includes gas money for my son's scoot. He wants gas money to go visit friends, he can pick up cans to recycle. Places round here all want online job applications these days so he don't need gas money for that. I'll still buy the rabbit food but only cause I won't see an animal go hungry and it's not but $6 every 3 months. And people can fix their own vehicles or pay someone else to do it.

genseeker There used to be an old man, quite a individual, who moved between arkansas and idaho every 2 years or so. When he came here he would go buy a tiny plot of land on land contract. Some times a hundred or two down and $50 to $100 a month payments. Twice he got an old school bus and a couple times a 8x12 yard building. A wood stove a little insulation and he and his dog are cozy. He would just leave every thing, maybe give the house away if some one wanted it when he went back to idaho. He passed away a couple years ago. No family. We started to take up a collection to get him buried and the local undertaker (another friend of his) did it free and got him a head stone. Couldn't afford teeth but could buy a pocket knife for every kid he ran across..... Little shorty.

I find it quite hard to say no to people as well. I'm naturally a generous person, and that extends to my computer tech skills. My family and friends know me as the GO TO guy for computer help. Even my neighbor called me today to debunk one of those fake "YOUR COMPUTER HAS A VIRUS AND WE HAVE PICKED UP ON IT!!" phone calls. I just like to help people.
The problem is that this is what I want to do for a career, and once you've established that you're a generous person, people keep coming back for more freebies! I'm getting better at it, and I'm starting to say no to anybody ask me for anything for free. Some people just come in and expect it to be free, but as a fresh high school graduate, I need the money too.

Here's what you say to them Jasen, "Do you work for free? I like to work but I have bills just like you. I can't afford to work for free and I'm sure you can't either. So friend or not, I have to charge you for my work, I'm sure you understand and feel the same way." Just do it once, it will feel so good you'll want to do it again. Learn to do it young and save yourself decades of bad feelings bud. Rich

Wow. Lots happened while I was out riding. Over 200 miles as of today. YEEE HAAAA! LOL
Gen, Lordy Gal, write all this up in a nice grant app and Obama might just show up in person to give you something. Either that or Reality TV just got a new Show.
I had similar things happen to me for many years and I finally had enoungh. I kicked everyone to the curb that wasn't actively helping me and quit listening to losers. Best thing I ever did. Life has picked up and things are SO much better than they used to be.
Post me a link to your stories or PM it to me if you like. I'd be happy to read some.

I would rethink that tiny homes thing, You could get a used or new travel trailer for a 1/3 of the price of a tiny home and you got to build it. They are both trailering homes so save the trouble and look for one like this to put on the land.

I did consider a travel trailer but decided against it for a couple reasons. Around here it's hard to find a used travel trailer, plus I have some antique furniture I refuse to part with, it belonged to my grandparents and it would never fit in a travel trailer. We have a couple local (within 50 miles) dealers of travel trailers and even the used ones there are well over $15K. Anything I have seen under that need major overhaul, basically need fully rebuilt inside which would cost a few thousand anyways. If I can use a former road trailer as the shell, then the shell will only cost about $1300, plus having someone deliver it. I can do most the construction interior work and I know the instructors at the local community college for the electrical classes, they are certified master electricians and are willing to inspect and do the breaker hookups if I run the wires. I do know I can do the work and just have a licensed contractor inspect the work and do the final connections. Right now I'm waiting for an answer from the local building inspectors about tiny homes, that will be the major factor in what I can do in the future.

Wow! That trailer would go for at least $15K here in Wisconsin. I'll have come your way if I want another. Genseeker, with what I've read about you here, independent/skilled/determined, and having those cats maybe you should consider a tree house. I think it would be YOU. Yes, I'm bored and watching TreeHouse Masters on the Animal Planted channel.

The reason they go so high here is once someone buys once, they almost never sell it until it needs a complete rebuild due the the inevitable failure of materials from age. Lots of people do mods and customization of their motorhomes/trailers when they get they. I mean, there's a guy living near me that has a motorhome from the mid 80's and he uses it every year.
This is the south where people make a religion out of hunting (lol) and camping. More people camp using trailers than tents down here cause they can start earlier in the year, go later in the year, and continue to go even when they can't get up off the sleeping bag in a tent.

It seems most people want new or at least the women do. When I bought my fold down a new one was the same price as a 15 year old that needed screens and soon to need canvas repairs. But of course cheaper quality if you look close.
