hi all ... non mechanic here again .. as the title states brown colored coolant. i had flushed the system all but good previous to the "browness". the original color was green. secondly, within a week of changing the oil out, the oil is BLACK. im assuming these two signs are no good ? only about 33 miles since oil change as well as coolant flush. im stumped. the engine also gets WICKED hot after a very short time of cruising (35 mph max). thanks again, and please forgive me my idiocy.

That is probably oil in the coolant. That means you blew the head gasket. The black oil is probably from exhaust blow by into the oil. If, as you say, you're mechanically challenged, this is not something you want to attempt. Also, once the mechanic gets in there the damage could be worse than just the head gasket. This will be expensive and involved. If you continue to ride the bike like this it will trash it even further. If you want to try it yourself the first thing to do is a compression test. Rich

ok, well, i got impatient and decided to "go for it". i bought it for 100 bucks, and figured it would be a learning process, and i feel ive got my money worth. here are the pics : gaskets ? we dont need no stinkin gaskets ! piston body ? i know i killed that name. underside of valves head now comes the big Q ... is it worth it to fix ? thanks again, sivel27

update -
got a whole set of gaskets coming in the mail, and thoroughly cleaned all the carbon off of the piston / valves. im assuming carbon buildup on those two parts negatively affects performance ? the piston body looked unharmed as far as gouging, etc.
question -
even if my batt is fully charged, i noticed my temp gauge needle falls from about half to the very bottom of the gauge when i start the bike. the thermostat and housing are new.
thanks again, sivel27

You kinda do need gaskets and that one looks terrible:
Piston body...clever...BUT WRONG!! It's the cylinder.
Yes, that is the "underside of the valves", it's also the name of a biker bar in Tampa.
Not the head, the head is the thing with the valves in it, that's the top of the piston, before it fits into the piston body....dang! Now you got me doing it!
Is it worth it to fix? Kind of a moot point, you're halfway there. I gotta give you credit for having some nards and taking the thing apart. That's always been my philosophy, start taking things apart and ask questions later. Yeah man, it'll be worth it, it'll be fun too. Let us know when the parts arrive. Get some of that carbon off of that thingie! By the way, I'm just goofing on you, I like your spirit. This could be a hoot. Rich

Before you go slapping that thing together how about doing some reading and find out how to properly time the valves, adjust them and pick up a few more tips on how to be sure of a good running engine. There are how too's in the library here.

another useless update :
ive got both master cylinders in the mail, as well as air filter and exhaust gasket. the scoots rear mas cyl is broken, and the guy tried to fix it by welding it. apparently it loses pressure. and the scoot did not have an exhaust gasket.
wait for it ...

i have checked the library, but could not find a honda clone cfmoto engine tear down guide. they all seem to be gy6 style. the search continues...

Foolish Earthling! Just ask! Use the Helix manual but just for the engine...the rest is for another bike. But the engine sections are exactly what you're working on. Rich

Rich your good, you ! thanks for that. im simply not worthy of your immortal power. while i had a bit of free time the other night, i was inspecting the water pump assembly, yada yada. upon removing the right side of the engine , a small gear fell off : prior to putting it back in place, i noticed the water pump impeller spun freely. no matter how i try to "re-mate" the gear in its location, the impeller wont spin freely anymore. ... if all goes well, i should have about half of my parts in today - gaskets filter and master cylinders. yup ... getting excited to do this.. thanks, mike
