The wife and I have been monitoring the tomato crop for the last few weeks. At least one week ago, we anticipated that today would be the day to pick and can our first big haul of tomatoes. I could go into a lot of self-gratifying detail, but I won't. Long story short: She hounded me about "Us" needing to can tomatoes. I started alone at 10 a.m. I had to beg her to lend me a hand at 6 p.m. She had one job: put the lids on the jars. Result: she screwed up. 4 of 7 jars are now toast. She didn't tighten the bands. She just left 'em loose. I spent about 14 hours, only 30 minutes of which was done with help, making and canning pasta sauce. 14 hours, 3 quarts of pasta sauce. 14 for 7 makes some sense. 14 for 3 is a total waste of my time.

Oh man, you should have consulted with me!! How long you been married? When women say things like we should do "X" together it probably means something completely different. She's fuming right now because you didn't get what she was talking about! You're a guy...you actually thought it was about tomatoes....foolish Earthling! She probably wants something else, a visit to her sister, a nice restaurant, I don't know, that's what I heard the past year. I actually had my wife say to me a few times when I asked her what was wrong..."if you don't know I'm not going to tell you." AAAARRRGHHH!! Kill me.

OK, I know this won't help you guys but after six months of Chemo, surgery and sickness I cut my wife a lot of slack. It actually makes me laugh these days when she chews me out for something I think is stupid. There were way too many days she was curled in a ball on the couch to even notice me leaving a light on or not taking out the dogs enough. I'm sorry your tomatoes went to heck but it's not the end of the world. I've been near the end of my world and it's not pretty.

After my wife's neck surgery 8 years ago she was tripping on opiates. She said "can you NOT keep those water droplets off of the mirror after you wash you hands??!!" Yes I can and we will get through this sweetheart. Been there KZ my friend...you know that....kindred spirits. Rich

Heh. My sweetie has learned that hints are NOT to be confused with communication. And that the silent treatment is NOT a punishment.
You guys will figure it out. Sounds like Bashan has. You'll never figure THEM out--they're truly strange creatures. But we like touching them, so what are ya gonna do?

Frankly, up until recently it used to bug me, but now, I just keep on loving her no matter what. She's my wife and I love her more every day.
I still like my me time on my bike.
Just wanted to add this... Listen to the words and think about how much you love your wife. Yes, It's about Jesus, but then isn't that how we are supposed to love them anyway?

You'll never figure THEM out--they're truly strange creatures. But we like touching them, so what are ya gonna do? Very succinct, very true, nature laid bare to her core. A few observations on the strange creatures: 1. They like the fact that we like to touch them, indeed NEED to touch them. 2. They will criticize the man beast for wanting to touch them, indeed NEEDING to touch them. 3. If they want some touch you better drop your socks and ....well...you know 4. They don't see any conflict at all with #1, #2, and #3. 5. They will get profoundly hurt if you bring up #4 in a conversation. If you do this with two or more strange creatures present you may be in physical danger.

DrRocco, Bashan, kz1000st, Guitarman, tinhorn, richardv I'm also sorry about the tomatoes but you could have pulled them out of the jars, drained them off and then remixed them with more tomato paste and spices and salvaged them by simply hot bathing the jars again with the lids tightly screwed on. Just last week I had a lid blow off on a jar of tomatoes and quickly removed it from the hot water, poured them up, added a few fresh tomatoes and put it back in a better jar with a better lid ring, came out pretty just like the others. I'm canning pickles right now, green beans this evening, and chopped tomatoes tomorrow. I picked two 5-gallon buckets of tomatoes this morning along with a 5-gallon bucket of green beans and a bucket of cucumbers. I canned pickled beets last week with tomatoes too and did it all by myself, why? My wife is a nurse and works night shift, she is asleep right now and can't help but on her days off she works her butt off helping can and freeze this stuff. By this weekend we'll have 4 peach trees coming off and she'll work them up into preserves and frozen peaches. JR

Pickles are done at least this batch kosher dills. Next ones will be bread and butter sweet pickles. Green beans in the canner right now 18 pints. I hate doing green beans! Tomatoes in the morning, they are a little easier.
Next batch of tomatoes will be made into salsa and spaghetti sauce.
