I was 20 miles from home tonight when I gave it throttle and heard a quick SNAP noise. My handlebar grip went soft, and I had no throttle control, it just went straight to idle. Ended up pulling off the side of the road and had my brother come rescue me in our minivan. Got my scooter home to find out my throttle cable was clean snapped in two. DAMN!

How many time we gotta tell ya face, quit chewing on the parts...
That sux, but new one are fairly cheap. And fairly easy to install. Any idea what broke it? Must be scraping against something in there...

Rookies I tell you, I know exactly what he did he cranked on the throttle they do not snap just twisting it till it stops, he cranked on it past the stop point.

I swear Alley, that was not the case. I barely had it at 1/2 throttle when it snapped. I can't even begin to understand what happened to it. I have a feeling the cable wasn't lubricated enough and was rubbing on the housing or something, eventually fraying it. But no matter how it happened, I'll need to get it replaced.

I think the hardest part is finding an exact cable. I ordered one cable, so I'm hoping it's the right length. I couldn't accurate measure because the cable was seperate a from the housing and such. So I might have to order a shorter or longer one! Oddly enough my cable housing was 70" long, which seems long for a 50cc

Mine snapped too. I just removed the inner cable and measured them together..75 in and i have a 50cc but a large frame but Ill be damned if i remove 20 panels to replace it. Mine will go thru the front fairing, accross the floorboard and into the vent under the seat.

I believe I have a large frame as well, which explains the fairly long cable. My guess is that the cable be fine once it comes. But I'm going to have to remove all my panels to route it back through! Yuck!

Depending how it's tied down you sometimes can duct tape the new and old one together end to end and pull the new one in with the old,,, this will end alot of grief sometimes

I wish I would have thought of that BEFORE I pulled the housing and cable out of my bike. Looks like it's a manual routing for me!

next time tape a fish wire or cord to the cable housing and pull it through as you pull out the bad one.

Just rout it however its the easiest. Its going to work fine no matter how you place it. The cable is still the same length it always was. As long as it gets to the carb and throttle its fine.

I got the new cable today. The new cable was slightly longer. I went ahead and tried to thread the cable down the front like I thought it would go and the cable seemed like it kept being attracted towards something..on further inspection, that rare earth magnet that I lost on my frame 3 months ago decided to make an appearance, exactly where I couldn't get to it. I ended up stripping down more plastics than I had ever stripped down before just to get the magnet detached from the frame. From there I routed the cable a couple times (I had to route it a couple times because the routes I took were too tight). Eventually I got the cable seated in correctly with no play in the throttle and it working fully. It took me close to three hours to complete this repair including putting mirrors and all plastics on. All apart... OOOHHHH WE'RE HALFWAY THERE WHOOOAAA LIVIN ON A PRAYER On a side note I don't believe the cable is routed as efficiently as it couldn't be, as I can turn my handlebars and still get a slight increase in RPM from the cable binding somewhere.

Working on these machines is actually very rewarding in the pocketbook,,,taking the bike to a shop would have been $150 minimum plus the part cost,,,you just saved a ton o dough joe
