It's cold now, so I'll do that when putting the gasket in.

Gonna work on it today, finally have time.
Relapping valves? How do I know if I actually need this and if so, how do I do it?

Well, new gasket, reassembled. No change. Just like the video before, approx. 30 seconds of normal running, then it fades and dies.

OK fine. What would make a bike run a short while and stall? Here's some scenarios: 1. Bowl runs out of fuel. Run a line right from the tank to the carb and eliminate the filter and fuel valve as suspects. This only works if your tank is higher than the carb. If your tank is lower it may be the pump. In that case rig up a source higher than the carb. 2. Bad coil. Sometimes they will run a bit and then fail. Swap out a coil, they're cheap. 3. Bad CDI. Sometimes they run a bit and....see above. 4. Bad sparkplug boot. See above and you should have got a new one with the coil you're buying. 5. Bad plug. Replace it, they're cheap. 6. Bad carb. Who knows with them, get a new one for $30.00.

it's a fuel starvation issue,,,something is restricting the flow,,,could be a carb float problem or a delivery problem,,,i've had more than one coil fail but they usually go out when hot,,,

OK fine. What would make a bike run a short while and stall? Here's some scenarios:... Fuel lines are clear, I'll check for flow. The filter isn't OEM, I replaced that but again, if the fuel flows after the filter in the line it should be OK. Coil, CDI and boot are all OEM. I'll check those, too. If it's not too sharp I'll just replace all three. Being OEM it's likely a good idea anyway. I'll check the plug, but that one's not OEM either. Got one of the better ones, but don't recall the brand at the mo'. NDI I think? Thanks to Cyborg, like I said, I'll look at that. TVN, looks like something I'd hire someone else to do, but thanks anyway. This is kinda why I posted about getting a new bike in that other thread. I work a full time job, and I'm trying to start a movie making business in my off time. I need a bike, not a hobby. I just can't spend 3 or 4 hours a week just keeping it going.

Where can I get a performance CDI? How is it different from a 'regular' CDI?

It is a fuel delivery problem and probably the reason it starts and runs then dies is due to the ENRICHER feeding it fuel then within say 5 minutes or so it cuts of the extra fuel and then no fuel is drawn from the carb into the motor. So saying that if the carb is old and looking dirty and such I would suspect the PILOT JET and its passage are clogged.
Now to verify if it is clogged wait till it cools off get a screwdriver ready to turn the fuel ratio mixture screw and start it up. Then turn the fuel mixture counter clockwise 1 full turn and listen if the IDLE WENT UP OR DOWN. IF it went up turn it 1/4 counter clockwise and see if it stays running.
IF turning the fuel ratio screw does nothing then you need to take the carb off and clean out the pilot jet and it's passage. Not just the jet you need to spray into the hole and spray should come out by the butterfly the pilot jets tiny fuel outlets. Alleyoop

drive.google.com/file/d/0Byy0KRaiu0mfWDVlRmdDeG1Jamc/view?usp=sharingI looked at the carb, didn't take it apart yet for obvious reasons. It looks clean, though. Only 1300 Km on the bike. When is a carb cleaning usually due? I actually carefully gave it some gas, and then revved it for a bit to 'clear it out'. As long as it gets gas it sounds fine, but it idles poorly. I upped the idle, as I said, and the hiccups slowed somewhat but I'm idling at about 1600-1700 and it shouldn't do that, I don' think. I could probably ride it, and it might not even strand me but that hiccup still concerns me.

Took it around the block. Running better. I suspect a good overall tuneup wouldn't hurt it too much. I'll look up that repair place in the other thread and see if I can't ride it down on a day to have that done.
