i just found this video of a chinese scooter factory... it gives me a little confidence that the scooters are being made reasonably well.... its pretty interesting.. maybe its already posted here..  but still.. worth a view..

looks like a reasonably modern manufacturing facility to me. I'd work there.
so much for 'dirt floor shacks' like some people say the factories are.

Bet when the japs started up turning out "junk" their factorys did not look as nice.

Yes this vid has made the rounds here about six months ago,,, one of our members Luke an ardent china scoot basher had a point to his argument that " all Chinese scooters are junk" up to about 3-4 years ago,,, they are still second string in my book but they are ( the scooters and the factories) getting better by the month,,, I'm old enough to remember the battle cry " JAP CRAP!!!",,, say that now,,,and also Hyundai motors ,,, I wouldn't have taken a Hyundai as a gift ten years ago,, saw a brand new genesis next to a brand new Mercedes 350,,, fit finish paint leather everything hands down goes to the Hyundai for a little more than half the cost of the 350,,, the Chinese scooter and motorcycle production will be very good in a few short years,,, but on the downside the cost will be right there with everyone else,,,so the allure of "cheap transpo" will be gone,,, along with the associated build quality issues

Born in 42, exactly 9 mo. after pear harbor! Grew up, until I was 7 in camp grant, an army dependent's housing camp and from early age heard all the bad talk about the japs and the junk they built. They had a way tougher time getting market approval than the chinese ever did or will. Some thing about all the GI's they killed in WW2. I still have never had a jap car and only one german one and that was by accident. Bought a new pinto wagon and later found out it was made in canada with a german engine. If I wanted to buy a new car I would easily consider a chinese or korean car but not a jap one.

I have seen a lot of videos of American factories that made them look like a great place to work. Until I got there and it was a totally different story. So I wouldn't put much interest in that.

I don't believe there is any car for sale in the US that is completely manufactured in any single country. Parts may be made in one country, component assembly in another, and final assembly in yet another. Goes for American, German, Japanese, Italian, every single brand out there. I would love to be proven wrong, but I'm pretty sure you can't find a modern car completely built in a single country anymore.

You are correct BMW even has engines made in china now both car and bike,, and if you took all the Chinese and Japanese and Taiwanese made electronics out of every vehicle NONE would run,,, even Harley uses Chinese electronics and engines also now,,,,
