I am done!

I am done! That's it I've had it. We started out for a ride a few days ago and the battery on my wife's Chinese bike failed. Of course the SYM banged off as usual. I looked everything over and charged the battery and we went out today. Her bike shut down 10 minutes into the ride. We nursed it back to the house with some pushing (by moi!) and letting it cool. I leap frogged the SYM the whole way back because I was NOT letting my machine sit by the roadside.
That's it, I am sick of Chinese sh!t! I am getting her a SYM or Kymco and I am not dealing with Chinese anymore. I don't care what anybody says, I know how to work on these things and that's what you do with the Chinese....WORK ON THEM!! I will not have another Chinese bike. I know what I've said in the past but I am done, they are a POS and I am sick of worrying when we go out about her bike breaking down. I have quit thinking about the SYM breaking down. At 11K it is better than ever and has NEVER let me down! I never said this was a Chinese scooter forum, it is a SCOOTER forum! I will still address Chinese scooter issues in the tech section but if somebody asks what scooter to buy, I'll say Taiwanese or Korean. I want to ride, not cobble together a bunch of sh!t!

Sorry to hear of a bad outing due to a battery going bad but: That can happen to any battery in any scooter no matter if VESPA,KYMCO,SYM or even a FERRARI. Batteries can go bad at any time, of course a brand name battery you have a better shot of them lasting a little longer and maybe not having a cell go bad but no guarantees even if you paid big bucks for it. Big bucks usually means a great warranty but still they go bad and inconvenience you even though they will replace it.
So how many years is the battery anywho's, for some years now you guys have been riding around with no problems so I would imagine it is at least a 3 year old battery if not longer. So now what do you think of a DC CDI, not so good huh, bad battery no spark. Alleyoop

A don't you have a stator in there that has an ignition coil? Where is your spare "ac cdi"?
It sounds like a day for some High Performance over sized towels.

So, was it a Chinese battery? And if you had had a flat tyre you would be mad at the chinese scooter? I had a battery on my Honda last 5 years and replaced it as preventive maint. The new AGM battery lasted 1 season, and replaced it with the original battery.

No, I'm fine, I've never been more at ease. I turned a corner, no more Chinese. I am at peace, I have already sent off e-mails to dealers about Kymcos and Genuines. I will ride, and my wife will ride, non-Chinese bikes. The page has turned and it will not turn back, thus life shall be and shant turn agley.

I'd have put the wife on my bike right after taking the plates off hers as I left it in the middle of the fast lane. I figure we'd make it home in time to report the theft before they find it.
The insurance payoff would be enough to get her a real bike.

my first scooter (tank- bought on line ) was DOA.. i had two batteries i rotated every 48 hours.. 4000 miles it was enough to make a grown man cry... second scooter (pegasus - big wheels bought from dealer) ran like a champ... never failed me... one battery.. started every time 8,000 miles right up until i didn't tighten the oil plug enough and it shook it self out and the oil with it... 3rd scooter.. yy250t from same dealer... so far (knocking wood clicking heels bowing to the east mumbling secret words) has not failed me so far.. 550 miles... my confidence is increasing ... 1 of two things.. either chinese quality is getting better... or its hit or miss with a chinese scooter... I'm can do only basic maintenance so i need reliability.. its too early to tell.. but i think this scooter is a keeper.. very sorry to hear about the breakdown... but then I've had american cars that did me wrong miles from home on a hot arizona day with no tow insurance... not sure what that means.. but .. crap happens

Sorry to hear of the bad day you had. I feel your pain, had the battery crap out on a ride once with my Harley, so I know how you feel. Just like your scooter, no battery no go, no kick start either so I was SOL. But new battery every 2 years and all is golden again.
Just make sure her new scooter what ever it is has a name brand battery with a warranty, I offer my customers an Interstate Battery at a discount when they purchase a new machine from my lot. Hard to do with on line customers due to the restrictions and cost of shipping batteries.

I have always put in a new battery every two years on motorcycles. Four years max in cars/trucks.

Well I just bought a lance GS-R -2008 for 280$, put about 60$ into it with a new valve cover and air intake tube.It would not start just turn over, I adjusted the valves and it started it right up but died and I had too clean the carb too. The thing would not idle at all but would turn over. I thought it was a piecer but ended up that the spark plug boot was weird and was on to far and now it purrs like a kitten after I pulled the plug back just a little bit out. I guess I won't press the boot on all the way.
