Just finished my break in period for my new 2015 Yamaha S MAX....
This is a first... With Chinese scooters, performance seems to improve during the first 1000 miles..
Not with the SMAX. Done with break in period and it runs exactly like the day I purchased it. I was very diligent in following the manufacturer recommendations for the break in period.

Nice bike dm,,,just checked it out in a few reviews,,,cruise at 80,,,,wow,,,,,good mpg,,,,nice fit and finish,,,good price too,,,congratulations!!!! Looks like you got a winner Thanks... Yeah, the S MAX is a completely new style of scooter... It's a 4 valver with EFI... wicked fast for a 155cc... 4 valve in conjuncture with EFI makes all the difference in the world. Right now I'm in the middle of an expiremental GY6 build based on the same thing.. Taida 4 valve with ecotrons EFI... Collected the parts over the winter and now that it's warm in the shop I'm getting to it whenever time allows... I've already torn the engine down. Now, I'm onto the build..... Me and my wife both got one... She got the matte one, I got the Titan Blue...

i have to be honest with you dm,,,,i dont think there is a break in period with these new scoots with the ceramic cylinders,,,i may be wrong but i think the scoots you just got are made in taiwan by kymco,,,,Clonedrone was saying the diamond hone they do on these cylinders is so fine it can be run hard right out of the box,,,he was saying it's called plateau honing,,,i'm sure he'll chime in here,,,my et4 vespa was like that,,,basically no break in ,,,and synthetic oil recommended right from the gitgo

That makes sense... Normally these scoots get a little faster with some miles, but this XMAX hasn't changed. In addition, it did come from the dealer with synthetic everything.
If you get a chance to stop by a dealer and test drive one, you should take it... You would not believe the performance Yamaha has squeezed out of a 155cc... I got on it the other other day and I maxed her out at 84MPH.... She cuts through the air like you're riding an arrow launched from a bow....
The S MAX is an amazing scooter.

Well it's a very modern design for one,,,the best materials,,,full balanced both rotationally and all the reciprocating masses,,,blueprinted right out of the box,,,4 valved planned flow head,,real great combustion camber shape, modern thought asymmetrical cam profiles,,injected,,improved cvt design, that's more efficient which creates less heat and wasted energy translating into more go,,,hundreds of hours if not thousands of computer simulation models before they even cut a part,,,improved ignition,,with a true advance curve,,,great body shape to cheat the wind and less overall drag at speed,,,and one very important factor,,,workers that actually give a sh!t that want to make the very best scooter out there,,,and it shows,,,there's been on and off raging debate about this here on the Doc,,,but in the end all i can say is ,,,everyone (manufacturers) looks to Taiwan ,,,,piaggio,,,bmw,,,honda,,yamaha,,everyone who's in the game is sh!tt!ng their pants over the next generation of development to come out of taiwan,,,most have folded up their tent and said fu(k it and just flat out buy them and re badge or contract them to just make the scoots for them,,,and the reason why is 84mph FROM A 155cc? are you kidding me with that?,,,and i'll bet you weren't tucked in or nothin,,,,to me an old hotrodder it's 2 steps away from 100+mph with just a little massaging and not much dough either,,,and don't even get me going on nos or a blower,,,the Chinese will get there but they are still a few miles back,,,,BUT you pay for it ,,,the scoots you got were double the dough of the Chinese spread,,,,

Then were into the Composite cylinders with similar fine finishes. A Slow break in is the last thing I would recommend for theses types of top ends. Story Back in the not so long ago 125 MX'rs was common to suck crank seals, Seizco is born. Im at a Pro show, stuck the top end in practice, get New Composite cylinder from support trig, and piston assy. Get it done, warm it up, take it to the 40 man gate and race it. No break in and it they won't seize. Did this Many times. (I'm running a single ring forging in my KX250 with .00018 Piston to Wall) Don't need no stinkin breakin. Most of the RePlate co. here are using Plateau hone for final finish. If misunderstood is like it sounds, The Peak of the Mountian has been knocked off leaving a Plateau, the peak is what we used to have the rings ext seat into almost Burnish.
