Are you talking about the VIN number and or the metal plate that shows who made it and a bunch of info like this one in the pic? If so look on the frame they are usually riveted on. Alleyoop

I can't find any serial number on my 2013 Jonway either. Maybe it's under the plastic that covers part of the motor which I haven't taken off yet.

I don't know what you guys are looking for cause there are no other markings on the motor but what you just found itched on the side of the case. My motor is a 157QMJ and that is all that is on my motor nothing else. The scoot are NOT like a car where just about everything has a number stamped on them even the motor so that when selling it as original all the numbers will match, No such thing exists for the scoots. Alleyoop Here is some help in finding the vin number and where they put them on scoots and atv's BUT NOTICE what it says about the motor number. countyimports.com/help_locate_my_vin_number

Yeah i seriously don't think this thing has one which is STUPID because it apparently has one registered to it. the engine number should be that whole plate you were talking about earlier but is nothing close to what the DMV said it was... so confusing
EDIT: Ok looking at US laws, it HAS to have one. I just want to pull my hair out omg!

Link us to the U.S law that says every scooter motor has to have a serial number. The only numbers itched on the motors are here. If that where true you blow a motor your up the creek check with any dealer that sell motors no such thing. All they are concerned with is the number of CC's the motor has to register it properly and issue the proper license. Most states up to a 50cc requires no special license, anything above 50cc's requires a license and a three wheel is a special license which if tested on one you cannot drive a 2 wheeler you are limited to a 3-4 wheel scoot. Here in illinois to drive a 50cc you to have a DRIVERS LICENSE, and you have to have insurance and register it and have plates on it to drive it on the streets. Anything 50cc+ requires you to take a written test and driving test and you then get your DRIVERS LICENSE updated with an M(motorcycle-50cc+ TWO WHEELER) OR an L for three 3-4 wheeler. On my title or anywhere there is nothing that says this is the motor serial number just the VIN number. If my motor blows I can go and buy another 150cc motor and slap it in no problems.

They must think these scoots are disposable then.

Here in MN we have to have a serial number to match with the vin Well I for one would like to see a scooter motor with a serial number. Out of thousands of members with scoots I have yet heard of anything like that when selling and or buying a scooter. But I will find out I have friends living in MN and will see what their DMV is looking for. Maybe JIM ffrom RapidRepair can chime in his shop is aboutn5 miles from MN in Wisconsin. Alleyoop

That would be greatly appreciated. Now I'm sure you can understand my frustration with this process. I'm beginning to believe they made up a number or something and we contacted to the lady she's like your SOL I guess so yeah. Never had so much trouble finding this number, even e-mailed a sunny dealer in New Zealand for a lead but have yet to get a reply!
