Well it appears your problem is the axle sprocket is not aligned with the front sprocket. You either pull the axle on the left out(Loosen the bolts and grab the left wheel and pull back OR Push the Right wheel in on the right to align differential sprocket with the drive sprocket. Alleyoop

Hi Jim, I checked the motor mounts. The bottom mount on the bracket to engine I was able to tighten about a half turn. Which is pretty loose. All others were very tight. What size is the nut on the drive shaft I want to take it off so I can check the bearing. 19 is too small and 22 is too big. I'll have to borrow one the right size.

Try a 13/16 standard socket. If my old memory serves me right LOL.
Also when you check the mounts make sure the rubber is good.

13/16 was correct. Got the bearing out. and it needs to be replaced lots of rust in it. But I can't read any of the numbers on it.

Just checked the drive shaft holding the front sprocket. Doesn't move side to side. Doesn't move in and out. Seems pretty solid even without the brace.Which brings up the problem. How the heck can I line the sprockets up when there isn't any play left to move either of them.

BIll Check the two bolts holding the entire swingarm to th4 frame. If they are loose or have come out from one side of the frame that would cock your whole axle one way or another and may be the reason why you cannot line up the sprockets. Here are the bolts to check one on each side, On mine they both came loose and where almost out and I the whole rear end could have come loose on the road. So they would not come loose I went to the hardware store and got little longer bolts and two lock nuts so I screwed them in and the bolts extended out an I then put the lock nuts on the inside now they will not come loose or out. I take it back. I got the sprocket off the drive shaft and it does wiggle a bit. The splines were completely dry and rusty. It also looks like if I added a washer on the engine side it can be moved out a little to line it up.

Well something is wrong, you have washers in the differential to shift it over THAT right there points to something is out of whack. Now you are adding a washer to the inside of the Drive Sprocket not good. You have to find what is out of whack or bent or has shifted.
Have you also check the LONG BOLT holding the FRONT of the motor? On mine the NUT worked loose and came off due to the swingarm bolts came loose and almost out and not holding the entire rear swingarm in place the motor then DROPPED on the right side when the long bolt came out of that side of the motor mount. The only thing that held up the motor was the EXHAUST pipe it was being held up cause the EXHAUST pipe was laying on the cross member.

Yes, Cy and I was hauling butt about 55mph only realized something was wrong when I came to a LIGHT and I heard a CLUNK right under me. It was the motor moving forward. I could have been killed if the motor and or the entire rear swingarm came off. I went home right away and tore into it to see what the problem was. I had to get my neighbor to help to aline the SWINGARM onto the frame so I could screw in the longer bolts and lock nuts I bought. I had to get my floor jack out to lift the motor on the right side so I could slide the bolt through the right motor mount and to the frame mount. Couldn't belive it. Now I have LOCK WASHERS on the long bolt holding the front of the motor. Before I take off I start it check the tires, the castle nut on the rear tires and all the lights and now I added checking the motor mount bolts and swingarm bolts before I take off for a ride. Holy wow! When ever I get to buy one of these things I had better remember my mechanical skills. All my vehicles since I bought my '86 Gold Wing and then in '88 a Dodge Dakota have been virtually wrench free. Just normal maintenance after warranty. Oh well. Better to learn the ropes before the purchase.

Jim is talking about checking the motor mount bushings: alleyoop The rubber is for a little give and cushioning.
