I got it all put together. I found a shop closer to me that not only sells new parts has an old tao tao in back they pull parts from. My horn now works! And I have a battery cover!
Now for the bad news....it won't start. I have checked for spark a few days ago, all good there. It's cold, so that may be a factor. I'm going to take off the bucket again tonight to see if I pulled the enricher cable
I have confidence I can get ot to run. I just need to be patient.

If you pulled the enricher cable wouldn't that make it be like putting the choke on?

I don't know. I'm a noob.
It was drained of gas and I replaced the fuel filter and lines. I can see gas in the line coming from the petcock.
I heard that it should be started via kick start first. I'm kicking it but it's not turning over.

If the carb was drained it will take some cranking before it fills up again and covers the jets so that the motor can suck in some gas. So crank it with the electric start that will get the carb filled faster than kickstarting it.
You can also take the VACUUM hose off the petcock hold it up and pour a teaspoon of gas so it flows diarectly into the intake then hook the hose back up and give it a shot. It should at least FIRE once and even start right up. Alleyoop

New nkg plug. Bypassed the vacuum petcock and I can see gas in the line. kill switch is on run and still nothing. I now have a dead battery. I can charge that, right? What should I look at next? I haven't looked at the valves yet. Check compression perhaps?

I got the carb apart today. It's bone dry. Like its never had gas in it. Hmmmmm. No gas was getting into the bowl from what I can see. Clogged inlet?

Looks like reason it does not fire is no fuel is being sucked in. Check if the float is stuck in the up position and not allowing fuel to flow in. If float moves up and down put a hose on the fuel inlet and blow into it and see if air comes out. Sometimes crap gets loose in the tank and clogs up the fuel inlet. Alleyoop

Another thing I've been unsure about - the bendix gear thingy seems to be a little wiggly. Like I could pull it out if the starting gear wasn't in the way. Is that normal?

Concerning the Bendix Gear yes that is normal you can pull it out, what holds it in straight is the CVT cover has a slot that the end of the BENDIX shaft fits into and that holds it nice and straight. So when you put the CVT cover back on make sure the end of the BENDIX shaft slips into the slot built inside the cvt cover. Alleyoop
