Wow... that is awesome that you're able to take nice long trips like those on a Chinese scooter. Interesting what you said about CT not having a helmet law, because I live in Iowa and we do not have a helmet law here either. Since I was only riding 2.1 miles to work and 2.1 miles home, I thought having the wind in my hair/face would be nice. I got me a nice pair of those goggle shade glasses, which helped to keep the bugs and dust out of my eyes. Well... Tuesday morning I was leaving for work nice and early and cruising up to the QT for some breakfast before work. There was little to no traffic on this divided 4-lane road when suddenly from a side street a car came flying out into the road, turned and sped down the road. I had swerved to miss the vehicle and may have over-reacted just a bit, because I hit the medium in the road and the next thing I know some guys are strapping me to a gurney and loading me up into an ambulance. I was lucky and nothing was broken, but I banged my head off the pavement at least once or twice AND rubbed a few body parts along the cement just to make my mark. I got a little road rash on my arm AND on the other side of my nose (from what you can see here). I guess I could be a walking billboard for wearing a helmet at all times (got one and will be wearing it going forward). Fortunately the scooter isn't in too bad of shape. One of the body panels is cracked and broken in a few places ($50 = replacement part) and there are some scrapes on a few other body panels, but it still starts up and runs and rides just fine. There's ONE small issue I've having, but I'll post that over in the technical board. Gotta leave this thread open for tales from the highway.

I was riding back from my latest trip to Connecticut this morning when the Fashion gave me a scare. I was on Route 17 in the very middle of nowhere when I started hearing a shrieking noise coming from the front end. I figured as long as it kept rolling and I didn't feel anything I would slow down and keep going to the nearest rest stop. Of course after about five miles the noise stopped and it didn't do it again. When I got home I checked everything I could but couldn't find even a hint of where the noise came from. Stupid China bikes. I have to do a thirty-five mile ride tomorrow and I'll give it a chance to do it again. Spare Japanese motorcycles are in the Bull Pen waiting their turn.

I've had the urge to open another scooter dealership. Even did some preliminary location scouting. So far, I've found that if I lie down for a couple of minutes, the feeling goes away. Repeat after me, the urge will get stronger and become a reality when drinking large volumes of alcohol to keep the wise part of my brain in my lower extremities! JR

If you do open another shop Tom do it near an MMI facility. Mechanics would be less of a problem for you.

The shrieking was probably the speedo drive or cable

That was my thought, but fortunately, it's still working just fine. I'll wait for it to break if it's going to since I can't see anything wrong externally. Both the Helix and Fashion cables are compatible. Heck maybe the drive is too. The one good thing is that as Chinese stuff breaks on this I can fix it with Japanese metal.

Good idea. I'm using it this afternoon again for another 300 mile round trip. I'll get to it now.

On a majesty the speedo sensor tends to squeal when out of grease. Am thinking yours would be the same since it has the electronic gauges.

I pulled the sensor out and greased it. I'm now in Danbury after a hot 150 mile ride. Everything is functioning fine.

Way to smell it out, Cyborg. What would motivate a man to take such a ride... over and over again? Only kz1000st can truly say, but I can recall back in my wandering days how I once took a Greyhound (bus) from Iowa to Buffalo, NY to meet up with a beautiful young lady. We had five lovely days and night and I even took her out of the country. We were in Buffalo, so naturally we had to go see the falls AND if you want to see the BIG horseshoe-shaped Niagara Falls then it's Canada or bust. A walk across the Rainbow bridge took us into Canada and back then we didn't need no stinking badges (or passports).
As we left US soil and crossed over into the great white north, the Canadian's were like, "How's it going, eh?" They didn't even ID us. Of course returning back into the US we did have to show our state driver's licenses.
Oh... and...
I will always ride with a DOT approved helmet... I will always ride with a DOT approved helmet... I will always ride with a DOT approved helmet... on my head...
Cause I know how very lucky I was and even though I've got a really hard head, I'm not going to be hard-headed about this.
