When I first got this Helix clone, it was kicking and bucking like a mule at low speeds. I wondered how this thing could hold together under such torture. Not knowing anything about it, I rode it. Then I learned to take the clutch and bell off and sand them. That helped for a while, a month or so. Now I've had to do that a few times. The last time was not long ago, and two days later it was chattering again. I'm wondering why it's like this. Could the torture it's been through have caused the clutch springs and the whole mechanism to twist, so now the shoes don't contact the bell uniformly? That's all I can think of why this is suck a problem. I don't see other scooters shimmying and kicking like mine, it's seems to be unique to mine. I don't think I'm supposed to have to take it apart every other day!

Are you babying it? I don't know what the answer is, I had same type of thing with that 400cc majesty, never cured it but at the last I was rolling throttle while locking the back brake. That would last a month or two. I got rid it because of the horrible ride and my bad back hurting/

I can't baby it, it kicks like a mule! I have to hit the throttle pretty hard to get out of that first 10mph, after that it's ok. Cruising the parks is a real bitch.

If things are twisting inside the clutch it's time for a new one

Just have to get the variator off, it's stuck on there. I'll rip it off with a wheel puller. I didn't try too hard, I was afraid of damaging something. But it's coming off, one way or another. I can't stand riding it like it is, so....

I've hit it with penetrating oil every time I took it apart to sand the clutch. I'll use some heat and pull it off. It's got to come off. The guy at the shop he's had to cut it off once, I hope I don't have to go that far.

The variator, not the clutch.

Just be careful, Thats the motor's shaft it is on. I would be inclined to do some precision drilling and dremel cutting rather than over heat the shaft, especially since you have the new variator. One thought the variator is aluminum and it is weak in comparison to the motor shaft. I have a couple of tiny chisels that can cut soft aluminum with out heavy impact on the shaft. Heat may destroy oil seals.

That sleeve is stuck on the shaft. I was just thinking, I can put the wheel puller on it and just put some tension on it, then just use a heat gun to heat the sleeve, maybe it will just pop off and hit me in the head.

The cone shape of the inner face of the variator.should give it some strength for the puller.

Check out this video he has out on changing the variator. Change Variator
