That would be great if my variator just slid off like that, but it's not, that's the problem.

The sleeve (boss?) moves back and forth just a little bit, so it's not frozen. It's like it's catching on something. Stumped.

is it possibly a "burr" on the shaft. Did you try penatrating oil on it and let it set over night? I am not sure if Heat on the shaft would be the answer. I have not ran across this issue yet. My Chinese Scooter ran 174miles till it quit on me. I put mine in basement 2 years ago, then decided to get it running again which I did. But with good heads together maybe this will get figured out.

That's what I'm starting to think, a burr on the splines. Heat won't help that! That's good, I didn't want to use heat. I need a 2 prong puller, I'll pick one up later. If I can tear the variato r off and get to the sleeve, it will be easier to deal with.

Got a 2 finger puller and it came off, not without a fight. Looks like the splines in the sleeve have been damaged somehow. As for the variator. All of the rollers have flat spots, some have two flat spots. It looks to me like no one has been in there. Someone made a note in the manual that they replaced the clutch, but I don't think they got into the rollers. So, Thursday I'll get my new parts, and it should slide along real nice...Can't wait, I've been riding this bronco for a year, sick of it. Thanks for the input.

No grease or lube on rollers, lube the rest of variator'
Graphite powder on rollers ok though, oil/grease acts like a magnet for dirt and will screw up the action of rollers.

The parts are coming ready to install. I was wondering if I need to use a little grease on the sleeve that the variator rides on. I might crack the variator open just out of curiosity, but I shouldn't need to do anything.

The sleeve was a real pain to get off those splines. I don't see anything on the sleeve or the shaft. A little rust, but in my opinion not near enough to cause such a problem. Does this shaft look ok to you? As note, the sleeve was not frozen, there was a little play in it. But, I had to use a puller, and I had to really crank on it. Just when I thought something had to give, the sleeve popped out about 1/4", and then it walked off, but not easy. So I'm hoping the new one will just slide on.
Hmmmm, can't post image.

Got my new parts in. The new sleeve went on like butter. Just went for a ride....so that's how it's supposed to work! Very nice, well worth the $150.
