Hi my friends, I have a small problem that is killing me for the last week. I have a 2006 JmStar 250 that I have been fixing, the problem I am having is that every time I press the brake lever it start cranking. I remove the start button and same thing, I remove all the plastic covers and left the chassis and the harness all exposed to look for a short and 3 days later I can't find nothing. I am getting like 5 volts at the starter solenoid signal connector and when I press the brake lever I get 12v just like if I press the start button. I need some help, I don't know what to do. This is a 2006 JSD250T2 Jmstar, THANKS in advance ....

Trace the wiring for the brake. If it does it with both front and back brake, that narrows it down a little. Do you have a wiring diagram?

Yes, I am having the problem with both breaks. I have been trying to look for a diagram but can't find one for this specific model, I have open practically the entire wire loom and I haven't find any broken wires.

use one of the generic diagrams. That should not be all that hard to trasclle out. The generic diagrams all are pretty much the same. Does it do it with ign. off too? It is possible a couple wires got crossed together.
In our library here we have most generics.

There should be a wiring block somewhere. I'd be making sure all the wires are in the right place.

Sounds to me like someone hooked your brake lights to your starting circuit. Find that wiring block, mine is in the front dash.

Brake lights are in the starting circuit. They just do not apply 12v from the brake being on. to the solenoid untill you press the start switch. 12v comes from ign sw. then to brake switch and the solenoid gets it's 12v from the brake being applied.
Some where in the wiring the wires are crossed where the start switch is.
The helix is the odd ball, only one of the brakes is used to get start voltage.

Yea, the rear brake pedal on the floor! So you need to balance the scooter with one leg, while the other one pushes the brake, stupid design. I by-passed that problem so I can keep both feet on the ground. I've always held the front brake anyway.

It only happens with ignition on, let me see if I find a good generic diagram.

OK here is a fun fact, I am getting a constant 4v @ the starter solenoid signal and then I get 12v when I press the brakes (Left or Right, they are connected with a Y connector). But I get nothing @ the START switch. I have download all the generic diagrams and the closest one have an indicator lamp for Cell Phone :-)

That's where I am looking at them right now, it's very hard to find one that match. There are so many of them.

Outside of a helix even the 150cc scooter start circuit will be pretty much the same as most 250cc scooters. Turn on ign. And 12v appears on one of the brake switch terminals. On the other terminal the start switch is connected. When you push start it puts 12v to the start solenoid. You more than likely have damage to the wiring harness. Check for mouse chews.

Finally I found the problem, there was a broken wire inside the harness by the steering column, I open almost all the harness and it was on top next to the cluster. its ok, now to continue the rebuild, just need some other parts to finish, just got stock with the cranking problem, now to the carburetor tomorrow and try to test drive this weekend. THANKS.....
