Just thought I would share one of my other very enjoyable 2 wheeled interest that gets 100+ miles per Gallon and has a very nice fun factor as well, I have 3 of these motorized bikes now I built 2 of them myself and bought another that someone else really messed up trying to build which i will fix and make a cool bike out of as soon as I have the time.

Since we all have a liking for the 2 wheeled good MBG stuff I just thought I would share this on here as well, and if anyone is interested in doing one of these bikes just for fun and loads of attention from everyone you pass on the road cruising a bicycle at 30-35MPH just check out motorbicycling.com you can for sure find out all the info. you could ever want to know about building them on this forum and just like on here they are a great group of people to work with.

I hope this is not too off topic here just wanted to share with you guys and gals.

Sort of a remake of the old Whizzer motor bike. I had one in the early 50s. Good to see someone still interested in the type. i have read elsewhere that you can buy the kit but
I forget what the cost was. Should be relatively easy to build.

Nah, not off topic.....you can post about anything in general discussion. I think those are really cool, I love the "smallish" motors, I think they'd be a blast to work on. Also, the motor is RIGHT THERE, I'm sure you can feel it, hear it, exoerience it. That's one reason I love my motorcycle, it plays a symphony while I sit on it. I made my Bashan 150cc naked for the same reason, among others. I looked at that site on another post somewhere and read over the ads, very cool stuff. Great hobby, post all the pictures you want. The 66cc (sometimes called 80cc) 2 stroke kits for motorizing your average bike can be bought for about $140. The 49cc (4 stroke) kits cost about $300 to $900 depending on the type of transmission you want. Basic 2 strokes have a manual clutch while the 4 strokes use a centrifugal clutch which is mated to either a belt (toothed or v-belt) or gear transmission. Here's my MB with an early 4 stroke kit which is being updated to a v-belt (Q-Matic) transmission. This setup can easily be geared for over 40 mph and typically gets at least 175 to 180 miles per gallon.

Yea I really like my motorized bikes, I ride them to work sometime just for fun and it is a 32 mile round trip and I start out in the dark at 4:45AM in the morning and run about 30mph average for 16 miles. I have not built a bike with the 4 stroke engine, I have stayed with the 66cc 2 smokers for the price and simplicity factor, they do require so tweaking and some upgraes before they are reliable rides and normally some fabrication is required to get them mounted and set up correctly, but they are good fun and something that many people have never seen, I road one of my bikes to town one day and went over to my local bike shop and the owner went crazy over the bike and was taking his customers out side to see it, the bike in the pic I listed in the original post cost me about $450 to build, I added brakes, I used a spocket on the rear that was acrank sprocket off of a 16" kids bike it has 36Teeth and will run that bike in the 42-43mph range WOThrottle, most all of the kit sprockets are 44T which is good for power up hills but revs the engine very high @ 30MPH in my experience, theres more work than one might think involved in building one of these right but they are fun to cruise around on and make a very good conversation piece everywhere I go.........the pic in this post is of my first build which is for sure a country boy cruiser with all kinds of junk on it to make it suitable for a longer trip day or night, been on the back roads so bike is very dirty in this pic.

Great job on that build, that is a nice clean looking bike that I'm sure you really enjoy.

Thanks, Shan. Your slant head is a pretty bike. I like the articulated chain tensioner. Did you make it yourself? The country cruiser looks like a perfect candidate for a shift kit. My bike is now set up similar to your cruiser in that I have panniers and I am using a 12v7ah sealed battery for the main light source which is a projector fog light fitted with a 27 watt halogen bulb. I use a Princeton Tech hybrid for a backup. My bike is 3 years old. Haven't played much with it in the past couple of years while I was scootin' and also waiting for an improved transmission.

Yes I made the tensioner but had to go back and modify it so that it would not swing down so far when starting the engine by popping the clutch, the chain would get to much slack in it and come off uch of the time when starting the motor. my head lights on the country cruiser are 50w halogen MR16 bulbs powered by a 12v 7ah battery like yours, only have a little over an hour of lights before the battery needs charging but It only takes me 45 min. to get to work on the bike when I ride it to town so I have lights the entire way and they are very bright which is very important for night riding on a main highway. There are some very good belt drive transmissions for your 4 smoker out here now, one of them is called "Whisper Drive" and another one is made by "EZ Motorbikes", I am really enjoying my scooter but I still enjy my motorized bicycles also.

No panic stops yet but brakes are pretty good, V brakes on front and caliper brakes on back which arent quite as good as the V brakes, but together they do the job just fine, I normally cruise at about 28-30 with the 35MPH short run run now and then, but if I'm running through town I take the back way to everything I can, I like to stay away from the 50-60MPH traffic when possible, but I sure get some big smiles when I'm in the 30-35MPH traffic and people look over and see this ole country boy running right beside them going down the street at 30-35MPH on a bicycle, even the police officers around here just shake their heads and smile at me as they usually pull away from me just because they can..... Lots of fun and NO brake issues thus far...... Go to motorbicycling.com/ check out the very good info. on the motorized bicycling and pick a vendor that has the best deal on a engine kit and build you one out of a $90-$100 Wally World beach cruiser or mountain bike, fun to build and loads of fun to ride, the 4 stroke kits cost more and are probably the most trouble free, but I like the 2 smokers because they make the bike look a little cooler in my opinion, sorta like the old whizzers....anyway I have 3 of-em and I reall y enjoy cruising around and turning peoples heads many people have never seen a bicycle with a motor before so they make a great conversation peice wherever you go.

AAAAAAAAH.......! the classic old Honda trail bike, many -a- kid cut their teeth on one of those......best offroad mini bike ever made in my opinion, I never got one but my cuisin had one and we ran that thing ragged and couldnt tear it up, we rolled it, dumped it, jumped it, and wrecked it every way you can think and it just started and went. wow memories...!
