last week I ordered a netbook. I got a refurbished asus Eee pc. got a 9" one with a linux OS. was cheap but when it came yesterday I was pretty disappointed. today I wiped out the Zandros OS and installed "ubuntu netbook" wow what a difference. Now I love it. hard as hell to type on a 9x6 inch computer but can use it in a recliner of bed or any where i choose to take it. with my health I know I am going to get grounded some time in the near future. doubt if the va has wireless but just in case I am ready. john

My son has a t-shirt that says "when you live on the cutting edge, be prepared to bleed". Good luck!

Congrats! I love the netbook concept. Nice little machines. My son has a t-shirt that says "when you live on the cutting edge, be prepared to bleed". Good luck! I need a T-Shirt that says that! I had been looking at netbooks for a long time, since I did not own a laptop at the time (aside from my work laptop) and I wanted something basic to supplement my desktop at home. It would have been great for the basic media needs and websurfing. I, however as a geek extraordinaire, finally decided I wanted something with a little more "umph" and bought a 13" Toshiba laptop, bigger hard drive, more RAM, stand alone GPU and dual core CPU, but still no optical drive. Still highly portable, but can handle some more demanding tasks like some basic gaming and HD video without bogging down. Just wasn't as cheap as a netbook though... Maybe if I hadn't bought that, I could have fixed my scooter by now.

Just got back from wallmart, with a new netbook case. my investment is going up. I had $139 in the book till ths morning. I am retired, have no legitimate use for a computer other than my own enjoyment in surfing the net and getting tips and information on my hobbies. If I had to use microsoft I would not have a computer at all, thats how bad I hate them people. I have been using linux since right before windows xp came on the market and I read the user license agreement for it. I was all set to get an xp upgrade till I read the ULA. Not sure I could even turn off a windows computer but can pull plug on it! Linux is a whole lot easier to use today over when I started with it but was a breath of fresh air compared to win98 which kept blaming me for an "illegal operation" and then promptly crashed. john

I love linux and enjoy the freedom, but I've never been able to get the MS monkey off my back. I'm trying. I've dabbled with a few flavors over the years. Ironically, the first OS I ever paid money for was a retail package of Mandrake Linux 7.1 Things have definitely gotten more streamlined since that first experience.

My friend, you're a vet, you worked your arse off, you deserve anything you want and don't look back. By the way, I have an Eepee also. I bought it to play freecell on the long plane ride to visit my brother in Montana; so I think I got ya trumped on indulgences. Rich
