I read up on this www.scooterdoc.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=electrical&action=display&thread=1498headlights and tail/running lights BUT am getting power ... the little switch on the front of the left handlebar just in front of the bright/dim button is. if i press that the lights work fine?? what is that button for anyway? an emergency light switch? as apparently it by passed the main light route. i found only 2 fuses one to the radio and one a blue 15 amp not sure what it goes to.

Check the connectors at the voltage regulator (manostat?)for tightness. I think the button your tallking about is a "flash to pass" button. To be used for a quick flash from low to high beam. Good luck!

right on the money winchester
found a white plastic conn that had partly melted and one of the yellow wires had lost conn, right above the RR. same thing happened with the white conn from the stator wires a while back, recon they are not heat tolerable.
cut out the conn and used a better quality one, works great
will soon replace all my amber/red lights with led.
