I got caught in a big rainstorm on way home today! Couldnt see nothing second time I got caught in rain (first wasnt bad), but couldnt see nothing trough the windshield! The first time I went to go buy some Rain X, but it said something about not use on plastic so didnt want to risk messing up the nice Chinese windshield. LOL So been just using spray Nano wax on it when I wax scoot, but still dont help! I thought I read on here where I believe it was Dr. Jr. that he uses Rain X, Is it safe to use on the plastic Chinese Windshields?

I was on a Vulcan motorcycle forum for quite a while and many of the guys vehemently warned against using Rain-X on plastic windshields. There were a lot of horror stories of destroying $500.00 shields. They had me so paranoid I never tried it. I use Novus Clean and Shine on all my plastics, it works great. Good ol' car wax works good to for a cleaner and protectant. Rich

When I asked about rain and helmet visors at the MSF course, everyone said don't use it on clear plastic. I've used Rain-X on my helmet before with no ill effects... but I think I'm going to stop that now..

why worry about ruining a 15 dollar visor, if it works for you. use it. I seldom get much over a year out of a visor due to scratches anyway. john

first scoot with a windshield didnt know they were that cheap! but sounds like a lot of mixed opinions! @jrryan so u use Rain X and havent had any problems? I was too scared to try it the first rain I got caught in too Bashan the guys at autozone told me not too. but if Jr uses it and has no problem should be ok? Guess jct842 said the shields are 15$ Im not sure on that, think hes talking about helmet visor? Im talking about the Windshield

I thought this old thread deserved a bump this time of year with riding conditions getting more humid. I did some research and you should NOT use Rain-X unless the manufacturer specifically says you can as it does on this Clear View Shields site (read down to the last line). I use the original clear on my motorcycle shield and it works great but it's a Clear View. If your shield literature doesn't say you can use it, you better go with the lemon pledge or car wax. Rich

face shields yes. good way to see if you like rain x and worst case it will cost you a new face shield. john That would be fine with my old scoot the wind just took the rain right off my face shield but my new 250 has a windshield and Im not tall enough to look over, so I have to look thru it. I use a good car wax on it but the rain just bubbles up, and I cant see unless I poke my head around the windshield then the wind blows the rain right off my visor dont know why it dont to the shield. I clean both with the wax? But have to say the dust spray like pledge does work great been putting it on shield and waxing everything else. I guess makes since it makes surfaces real slippery, so the water wont bubble up and stay on the windshield. Still think I will stay away from Rain X heard on clear plastic it fogs it up and u cant do nothing but replace the shield and Pledge is cheaper then rain x anyways!

I want to clarify that when I say Clear View shield it's a windshield not a face shield. But you're not supposed to use Rain-X on ANY plastic unless it says it's safe, it will fog it up permanently. I used to treat a lot of the Harley test riders in Talladega before they closed the R & D facility there. We often discussed how to keep a face shield clear since they had to go out in all kinds of weather and I ride to work year round. Here's a list of things that were reputed to help:- Rub Ivory soap undiluted onto the front and back of your face shield. You have to buff it like wax until it disappears and it takes a while. I've tried it, it does work for about a week but it's a PITA to apply. Do NOT use any other soap, it will probably have abrasives in it and scratch the plastic.
- Lemon pledge; I never tried it
- Car wax; it works about as well as ivory soap.
- Zooke Anti-fog Products. These kinda work but they are WAY overpriced, ivory is just as good.
- The anti-fog sprays you see advertised in motorcycle mags and catalogs. I've never used them but all the reviews and the test riders say they don't work.
- Cut a potato in half and rub the juice on the inside of your helmet visor. The guy that told me this was 6' 4" and had more tattoos than bare skin, I wasn't going to argue but I never tried it.
Anybody else got any suggestions? Rich

My wife uses Rain X wipes on her windshield to combat morning fog from the Delaware River. It seems to work for her and in two years I haven't seen any bad effects. She wipes her face shield too.

My wife uses Rain X wipes on her windshield to combat morning fog from the Delaware River. It seems to work for her and in two years I haven't seen any bad effects. She wipes her face shield too. Now Rain X makes a few products I never heard nothing about not being able to use the Anti-Fog/ Rain X. If thats what ur talking about her using it to combat fog. I am and I beleive Bashan is too talking about the Anti-Rain version of Rain X, that on a car windshields it will all just bead up and blow off in the wind no use for ur wipers any at all! But if she is using the anti rain then eventually it will start to make here shield look smoky or foggy looking and its not fixable she will have to replace it. but yeah u can use it for years and maybe have no ill effects with ur visor or shield but eventually u will or u might after first apply on plastic so Rain-X just says not to use on clear plastic to cover there butt. in cause it does mess it up then they would have to replace ur shield or visor cause they didnt say not to use it on plastic but the Lemon Pledge works just as good as Rain X just think after u dust how slippery the surface is. I also found out it helps from bugs sticking!!!

Lemon Pledge or other Multi surface Generic brand of lemon dust spray works great! Been using it now for a little while got caught in one little rain shower and it blew the rain drops right off! Even helps the bugs from sticking!!
