The rear brake on my scooter is really hard to apply, you really have to squeeze the duckens out of it to work. Also when you don't squeeze it there seems to be occasional squeakiness out of it.
What would you recommend I look at first? Are the brakes tough to work on? I've changed the brake pads on car disc brakes before, and they look similar.

That's pretty typical for a rear brake. Most of your breaking is going to be using the front break (I squeeze mine both together). The rear brake is there primarily as a support to the front brake.

Spray a little lube inside the plunger that your brake handle pushs in that activates the master cylinder fluid. Mine starting to bind and or got hard to squeeze and that is all it was. Alleyoop

I hadn't even considered the brake handle section. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it a try.

Could be the pistons inside the caliper. Mine is also not to soft. I reckon s strip down of everything from master to slave.

Before you start jumping into it, let me stress again that it's very normal for the rear brake to be harder to pull/less braking power than the front brake.
As an example, a normal "squeeze" of my front brake will let the handle come back about half-way, the rear brake, 1/4", not much at all, before the handle gets hard to pull in any further.

My YY250T acts exactly the same. A very firm rear brake with little brake handle travel. The front feels softer and has more travel primarily because of the "ABS" unit which dampens the brake action for the front brake only. I get a little squeak from the rear when coasting at low speed, but not when I apply the brake. If the squeak is not too loud and the rotor is smooth, you may just leave it as it is.

That describes my experience almost exactly. I get some occasional squeak when the brake is not applied. It's not just at low speed though and when it's going on it's very annoying.

Also the piping to the rear is a little further and that could also be a reason and with no servo assistance.

My YY250T-2 is the exact same as u describe here except my front break squeaks at low speeds think it has a slight warp in rotor. but the pressure is the same with my front and back almost felt like I didnt have no back brake at first till I got use too it but just use both at same time u use more front the back helps counter act with the front to keep u from going over the handlebars!

Just to revive an oldish thread. I took the caliper off, took the pads out and started pumping the brake lever until the two pistons in the caliper wants to pop out. Then I squeeze the piston back with a vice and repeat again for about 10 times. Now I have a much softer rear brake lever and the brakes even feel better. (Did not open the reservoir)

That sounds doable. I'd really like to soften them up if I could.
How exactly did you vise them back in?

dugglebogey I used a vicegrip but I suppose any big pliers (strong formarm muscles needed though) will do.

Awesome. I was thinking vice grips but I wasn't sure. I'll do this when I get home from Tgiving Vacay.
