Those of us who teach so-called "adults" in community colleges put up with a lot from all the low-cut tops on the young women to guys falling asleep in class to laughing at text messages (texting in my class is good for being asked to leave - game misconduct).
Yesterday was probably a record weirdy.
I had just started my lecture. One of the young women who is actually a HS senior taking college classes, reached down to get a pen out of her purse. All of a sudden she says "EEEEEEEWWWWWWWW - there's toenail clippings all over the floor back here". Of course that set off a conference with the other the other students who were close. Yep - brightly painted toenail clippings on the floor. Somebody was trimming their nails in an earlier class. I'm glad it didn't occur in my class.

Yup Professor, I remember a guy in one of my classes who always fell asleep in the back(he was shooting for an A). One day as class was leaving, someone went to nudge him awake and there was drool all over the side of his face, the desk, the floor and even one pant leg! (our next President!) He just shrugged it off like it was nothing and left the room!?! Youngster these daze! M/C

Luke - Universal Precautions? Infection Control is going to get you!
M/C - I wake them up before they drool.

Well I have to admit that clipping toenails in class is not the best way to earn an A-- unless you're attending class online, in which case it doesn't matter!

I am so glad that I didn't continue my teaching when I left the service. I don't know how I would react to the Young Adults(?) of today. At least teaching young recruits I had a captive audience and they had to behave.

CCprof,,i'm just curious as to what type of professor are you? i mean are you strict? linient? bookish? do you give chance to your students? things like that...my dad was an Accounting professor for 15 years. the way i see you(in the picture) i think you are an approachable, nice to everyone type of professor. ..IMO(in my observation)

I taught the MCSA, Cisco, and A+ classes at a local CC. I had one kid that "USED" to fall asleep...that was till the fateful day I brought an airhorn to class to kindly ask him to wake up. Strangely, he never fell asleep again.

Luke - I try to be a decent sort and help students learn. That's more important than just giving a grade. I'll give anyone a chance. Of course, with some, they're their own worst enemy. We have a lot of older students and, frankly, I'd rather have them than some kid fresh out of high school. This term I have from about age 17 to 50. JR - The picture is insulting! I would never wear a plaid shirt to class! LOL! How about this?

He put me to sleep! I've taught, and there is NO excuse for being boring... If a student used a cellphone in my class, I'd ask him to leave.
