I have a 150cc Jonway GY6. Isn't there an upgrade "kit" out there to add another 20 or 30cc to the engine? If so, how hard is it to do, what do I need, and what will it cost me?

I would hit up enviromoto, monster gy6 or any of the other sponsors, (I have dealt with those two before) they both have the parts you are looking for. the biggest you can go without boring the cases for sure, is a 59mm kit (160cc) and in some cases a 61mm (170cc) kit. It depends and there is no way to know for sure without taking off the top end. for budget concerns, scrappydog is awesome as well as autotech355 on ebay.

Scooterworks, has a 61mm(171.3 upgrade kit that does not require boring the case(thats how it is advertised as). Alleyoop

In addition to the information in Bashan's link, I have gotten some more info. I made a few phone calls and the consensus I got was: 59mm kits are a direct fit, 61mm kits require case milling in most cases depending on the motor and kit used, 62mm, 63mm and 64mm kits DO require case milling. I was also told that using the 63mm and 64mm can crack the case. more so with the 64mm. To use a 63mm or a 64mm kit, the cases need to be strengthened were the jug sides in by a machine shop capable of doing that and "line bored".
I also have been working with my warehouse on pricing of these kits and some other items. I hope to have the new prices on my site this weekend to be more in line with other "reputable" dealers. I doubt if I will be able to compare with "some" of the Ebay folks, but a lot of them only sell parts, meaning they don't other tech support or even work on scooters like those of us in the above banner ads. Bashan does a great job of weeding the bads ones out of his banners.

Why thanks Jim, very nice words indeed. I would rather spend extra bucks if necessary to know I'll get good qualiy parts and support if I need it. It always kills me when somebody asks where they can find a dealer they can trust and as I'm typing the answer the banners are rolling merrily along above. I'll say again, and Jim will back this up, Scooter Doc does not get a red cent from the banner folks. We just want good dealers available to our members when they need a part. In the greed stricken world we live in I know that's hard to believe. So get your credit cards out and become a forum donor to keep the Googles away! Rich

Scrappydog has a 200cc engine for around $500.00. Check it out. There are other engine builders on the net. Check with this forum to get info on the engines and the companies that build them. Check out MBE, www.mbemotorsports.com/catalog/productthey have a 180cc I think I saw it the other night. A complete engine already built sounds good to me. As my upgrades went not very good. If you build your own with a big bore kit take lots of pictures to share with all of us. Triker98304.
