Hello So I bought a pod filter to do away with the stock air filter assembly. I was looking at installing the new pod , but if I remove the stock air intake how will I support the rear end of the carb ?
I'm opened for any and all ideas and would love to see pics of what others have done
Thanks in advance John

Hey John, at least we can forget about that stupid rectifier for a minute or two . Usually the filter isn't heavy enough to need support. I've talked to quite a few vendors that said the uni could go right on the carb. All of my scooters do not have room because of the engine mount. So I cut a piece from the stock air hose and made a short extension through the mount. I'm using the chrome manifold but it was like that with the stock manifold also. Rich

Hope you are using foam oil on that filter. They suck dust straight into the engine without it. The oil does the filtering, the foam is the support...

Yep, got the kit from Buggy Parts NW. Turned out to be the same stuff I had left over for the K&N's for my Viper. Oh well, I got enough for several scooters now. Rich

Here's a pic I just ran into of an earlier setup I was using, I can't even remember how long ago this was. You'll note this is with the stock manifold:

excelent pic Rich I can't think about the air filter at the moment , I'm getting belt or clutch slipage that needs looking into. My driveway is sloped down in the morning i start the bike I let it run for a little bit (zipping my jacket pants helmet gloves) I take it off center stand and walk next to it to get it up the driveway it hoped up the drivewaythe last 3 mornings I checked to make sure it was completely off the center stand same problem, at stop lights I feel it engaging quick buck then gone. almost 1k clicks I have not had the cvt cover off.

The oil for the K&N filters is very different than the oil for foam filters. If they sent you a kit for K&N's you have the wrong oil. The viscosity of the oils is very different. If you use K&N oil on your foam filter it will leak out trust me been there done that.

OK, thanks for the heads up Jake, I have both so I'll use the correct one. I thought I might have found a use for the K&N stuff I have sitting around. Wait a minute, I just remembered my Vulcan has a K&N, I can use it on that! I checked it about 3,ooo miles ago and it was good, so I'll recheck with this oil change that's due. Rich

John Once you get the cover off the culprit is usually pretty obvious. If the variator is slipping there will be black residue on the pulley, same for the clutch. Rich

THE K&N FILTER OIL IS MORE FOR THE PAPER CONE STYLE FILTERS BUT I RIDE PITBIKES AND HAVE UNI FILTERS ON THEM YOU CAN USE THE K&N STUFF JUST SPRAY A LIGHT FILM ON THE OUTER FILTER FOAM DO NOT LET IT GET INTO THE CARB! TAKE OFF THE 2nd LAYER UNI FOAM SPRAY IT SQEEZE IT TILL NO MORE OIL COMES OUT AND PUT 2nd LAYER BACK ON YOU WILL HAVE TO RE- DO 2X A MONTH. IT WORKS FINE AND I LIVE IN THE DESERT SO DIRT IS AN ISSUE HERE.BUT MY PITBIKES WORK WELL.ALSO I KEPT THECURV IN MY STOCK HOSE IN LESS THAN A c FORMATION. MAKE SURE TO USE SILICONE AROUND THE FILTER AND RUBBER TUBE OR ELSE YOU WILL HAVE A LEAK. I HAVE A 50 CC SOON TO B A 180 OR AROUND THERE, GET THE ALUMINUM MANIFOLD FROM SCRAPPY DOGS ITS CHEAP THEN GET SOME CURVED OR STRAIGHT HOSE DEPENDING ON YOUR SCOOT TO MAKE IT WORK.ALSO YOU GUYS OUT THERE WITH THE BBK ON THE FIFTY ENGINES GY6/50CC 139QMB ENGINES CAN USE MANIFOLDS FROM A BBK MANIFOLD KIT FROM A CHINA PITBIKE ENGINE.VIA LIFAN OR JAILING ENGINE MINE WORKS GREAT!! PLUS IF YOU WANT A 20MM-24MM MIKUNI CARB WORKS WELL TOO! I FOUND FOR THE 50CC-100 CC ALOT OF PITBIKE PARTS IE:OIL COOLERS/ADAPTER,COILS,TUBES TIRES,BARS AND CONTROLS WORK WELL.ANY QUESTIONS E MAIL ME OR POST YOU GUYS HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS
