Hi guys, is there a rule of thumb about mixing roller weights, as in keeping them within a cerain amount of each other? Like if I mix 3x13g & 3x12g to give me 6x12.5g, can I do the same using 3x15g & 3x10g to again give 12.5g, or is the weight difference too big? Mike

I like the extreme mix. I have good results with 16 and 12 gram sliders, the top end is better than with just straight 14 grams, and the torque is a little better on take off.
Try it, you'll like it.

I have had good results with mixing roller weights, as long as you don't get too spread out, i.e 3x 10grm and 3x 15grm keep it close

Our DR2 variator for the 150cc uses 2 different weights in 2 different ramp angles. Totally unique system we designed to get that low end torque we all want without losing your top end to do it. You CAN mix weights in a stock variator and get SOME benefits in doing so but our DR2 actually is designed for just this purpose. Check out our intro and video on it then go to our install web site to learn how to install it yourself!

Wow Tom, you've been busy! What a great lecture on variators in general and a clever new product too. The tutorial and video is worth watching folks even if you're not in the market for a new variator. I'll have to work this into the tech section somehow Tom if you don't mind. Rich

That DR2 variator sounds like the Automatic V-Matic belt drive used on the old Honda Reflex. Used two different sets of weights on two different ramp sections of the variator. I believe some owners used to remove the lighter weights (K-mod?) to improve acceleration without too much impact on top end.

Rich By all means, it's what it's there for :-)
