mheinemeyer, That was a very "stand up" post you made! Thank you! It takes a pretty big man to say what you did and I appreciate it very much! I too should have waited a "day" or so myself. Although we do our best to only buy parts that are fully tested here in our shop, every once in a while, something isn't put together right or our instructions may be lacking, whatever and we have an issue. We have always said that if a part doesn't work like we say it does, we wouldn't expect you to buy it. This isn't as good for business as you may think but it's the way WE do business none the less. If we had to start selling crap parts to stay alive, we'd rather work at a drive thru at McDonalds! You really can't sell bad parts when you answer your phone and emails all day! Anyways, Please call me when you get the chance. Not only so we can see what we can do to get that pulley working the way it's supposed to but mostly because I want to thank you in person for your post. Like I said before, I know that was much harder than people may think and I for one respect that immensely!
To set the record straight, I responded promptly to your email about the issue but you never responded back so I don't understand why you would ask people who may have never seen our pulley before.
I never said you installed the spring wrong, I simply asked if you had the cup all the way down on the pulley. There's only grease on the needle bearing part of the pulley but it is covered by the spring cup so asking if the cup was seated properly was the appropriate question to ask you. We have never had 1 single complaint on our pulley so I was simply trying to get more info from you. We just don't replace parts because someone "says" it didn't work. We need more info, especially when it's the 1st issue out of over 200 pulleys! All I got was the same pic you posted here. Doesn't tell me much! I run all the same parts in my own machines. Every one of them! We wouldn't sell it if it didn't work as advertised. Could it be the "1" in 200 that was put together wrong? Sure it could! Did posting that I blew you off when I didn't, help your cause, NOPE!
Wow Tom, you've been busy! What a great lecture on variators in general and a clever new product too. The tutorial and video is worth watching folks even if you're not in the market for a new variator. I'll have to work this into the tech section somehow Tom if you don't mind. Rich
lol, I know I havent been here in quite a while but it seems odd you would say "We don't import Chinese crap!" when your trying to sell aftermarket parts to upgrade our "Chinese crap". Ok, now Ill go back to my closet...
I'm glad you asked and sorry I didn't see this earlier. What I meant was, China has 2-3 tiers of quality depending on what you spend. Since we design and mfg a lot of our own parts, we wouldn't sub it out to a factory that makes poor quality parts. Before ordering large numbers of anything, we test them here ourselves then we get a few into the hands of our MBRA members and even a few here on Scootdoc have tested some parts for us. Only then will we put them up for sale.
Wow Bashan, That video was scary!!! I love your ingenuity though! You clamp is awesome but I can't help but think our way is a little simpler and CHEAP too! Check out our video on how to remove that pesky main spring by yourself! Much less chance of injury :-)
Our DR2 variator for the 150cc uses 2 different weights in 2 different ramp angles. Totally unique system we designed to get that low end torque we all want without losing your top end to do it. You CAN mix weights in a stock variator and get SOME benefits in doing so but our DR2 actually is designed for just this purpose. Thomas, always start with the simple stuff. May be a stupid question but are your air and fuel filters clean? Take off your air filter and see if it idles. Probably not the choke if it still does it when it's warm too. Could just be an adjustment on your carb like Rich mentioned. My 1st guess for this issue would be dirt in the idle jet.
Brakes, like others have mentioned, are subject to how hard and often you use them and what material they are made of. Each one's experience will be different.
2mm is about the thickness of a Nickle. I would agree with kiwiscoot on the 1mm option. (About the thickness of a dime). They are cheap so no need to scrimp though but I think you can go to dime thickness without any issues.
That's great somebody! That's one thing we never thought to check when we designed it but now that you mention it, it makes sense that your mpg would improve because you're burning more efficiently with our CDI/Coil combo! We'll wait and see the others results to see if everyone gets the same results. Thanks for the post!
Ya, wiring is really bad on a lot of these. Check to be sure all connections have the wires firmly in them.
A bad CDI will cause the symptoms you described but so will a bunch of other things.
Damin69 has a good point on the PDI. This is VERY important to do. I know we all get excited with our new toys and can't wait to take her for a spin but the extra time on the PDI will save a ton of aggravation in the future. Also, when trying to start her, don't run the starter more than a few seconds at a time. Let it rest a few seconds between tries, You can burn these starters up quick and if it doesn't start after a few 5 second bursts on the starter, there is a problem anyways.

unfortunately, the road rash is an old friend. :-) i wont be turning any wrenches for a few weeks i think. i left the bike at the peoples house where i wrecked and i'm too banged up to load it into my truck. hate leaving it outside. i may solicit some help tomorrow an go get it. i can tell you this, long pants and a riding jacket would have saved some skin! gotta learn stuff the hard way all the time!
Horror story! I wrecked the bike! A bunch of road rash and a cut on my leg. I may have brused my shoulder too. Really sucks! I was coming around a corner when a car coming the other direction was speeding and riding on the yellow line. I freaked a little and moved over to the edge of the road but being on a corner, all the gravel was piled up and I hit it. The bike is tore up a bit but it looks like it's mostly plastics and the throttle grip. I am so bummed (And really sore!) Thank God I had my helmet on! Would of hated to see my face look like the side of my helmet! Anyways, I'm out of commission for a few weeks!
