Well, I adjusted the valves (both were tight) and the scoot ran much better. Didn't try to stall at all.
Also, I figured out that the rattle I was hearing was one of the gears for the kickstart. I removed it and all is well.
I'm looking forward to a nice ride on my way to work in the morning! ;D

Question folks... How does the rear fender mount on your scooter? Namely on the CVT side? The mount on the muffler side is easy (two bolts off the swing arm), but I cannot for the life of me see how the CVT side is supposed to mount. I assume I'm missing a bracket, but I've looked through all the places where I've been keeping parts and cannot find anything that remotely looks like it would work. I also compared my old motor case to the new case and found no differences.,

I appreciate the input, but I think I just answered my own question.... I was looking at some old pictures of the scoot and I came across this one: It looks like its just a little metal strap that ties it to one the starter bolts... now the question is... do I still have the piece somewhere? I guess it would be easy enough to fabricate, too.

I think that it may be time to finally install a new air filter. Anybody have a recommendation? What works for you?
In other news, I just ordered a new 842 belt (Gates Powerlink) and a set a new tires (Kenda K413 130/60-13). All of that should be here in the next few days.
After that, the next upgrade will be a new exhaust. I'm pretty certain that my current one has had it (plus its ugly).
Somewhere along the way, I'm also going to pickup a TrailTech Vapor to replace the bike speedo and (the now removed) gauge cluster.

I bit the bullet and moments ago I ordered a new exhaust and air filter. Should see those next week.
New Gates 842 belt is on. I think I got an honest 1 or 2 mph increase, based purely on observation this morning. Sadly, with no working tach at the moment, I can't make any better judgement.
The new tires look good and will likely go on this weekend.
I think I should start a new build thread. At this stage, this no longer needs to be in the clinic.

I think I should start a new build thread. At this stage, this no longer needs to be in the clinic. Well.. @#%@%@.. back in the clinic. I need a new head for my 161QML. Either I was running hot and lean, or I over tightened my exhaust bolts... or both. (Probably both). Last time I rode it, I noticed it got louder at one point and I just figured that the exhaust nuts had worked loose. Well, last night I went to go tighten them and one of the studs came loose, with a small chunk of the casting. I cannot find the QMK/QML style head anywhere. Its stud spacing is just slightly larger than the QMJ.

Can't you just replace the exhaust studs? I broke one on a Bashan 150 and backed it out with vise grips. I think I got the studs from Scrappy if I remember right. Maybe I just got lucky but I definately remember replacing it. Speaking of Scrappy, didn't you get that engine from him? Maybe he could help you out with some parts for it.
Oops....reread your post......chunk of casting......ow. Guess that brings us back to Scrappy. Rich

Oops....reread your post......chunk of casting......ow. Guess that brings us back to Scrappy. Rich Yeah, I got the motor from him and I've sent him an e-mail, but haven't heard back, yet. If it was just a matter of the studs having backed out... I know a few solutions to that. If the holes had stripped... I know a solution for that. But, I've got missing material and I'm pretty sure JB Weld won't be able to put this back together. Far as I can tell, these heads are darn near impossible to find. The common GY6 heads are a dime a dozen... heck, I've got one on short case sitting in my garage. I had another one QMK head from my factory motor, but I sold it Jake only to find out he couldn't use it. I sent him a PM to see if he still had it, but I also haven't heard back from him, yet. If I can't find one, I have no idea what I'm going to do. I'm not buying a new motor just to get a new head, and I'm not quite ready to buy a new scoot. We're starting to come back around to the prime riding season down here. I haven't even ridden my scoot in a good month, with the heat and humidity. That's actually when this happened, but I didn't go looking for the issue until last night.

Nope, JB Weld won't hold up to that heat. It might work for a while but it'll eventually let go. You're right, I did a quick Google but couldn't find squat for that engine. I'll look around some more and see if I can run into something. Rich

You might try a head from a GY6-B engine like the one from Scrappy...they have a different stud spacing than stock GY6s
Perhaps you will need to go with a 63mm BBK that will bolt right on... the 161QML is a very rare duck!
They tend to be on the 3 wheelers and are called 189cc Wangyes

Everytime I've asked Alpha Sports if they have parts, I get told they don't, even when they list them. The GY6-B heads also don't work. Too big.

Well, Scrappy says he doesn't stock them, or even know of a factory that makes them. I'm going to have to find time to pull the motor, then pull the head to look. I'm wondering if it may be somehow repairable. What are these heads made of? Cast Aluminum? Anybody have any experience with this stuff? www.por15.com/FIRE-SEAL-2000/productinfo/FS2/
