I'm still going to use the old hoses. What I'm going to do is cut the hose with the stubborn banjo bolt about 6" from the end, then cut the old hose in about the same place. Last night I bought the brass splice fitting and a couple hose clamps. I planned on doing it last night, but I got home much later than expected because of a very serious accident that shut down I-4 for over two hours. www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/breakingnews/os-four-hospitalized-i-4-crash-20100915,0,5468129.story After about 45 minutes, I eventually bailed thru the median and took another route home.

Checklist to a running scoot: 1) Remove and replace stripped banjo bolt. Found a work around. 2) Install oil cooler with original longer oil lines3) Swap 11 pole stator from old motor4) Replace fuel filter5) Clean carb 6) Fresh tank of gas7) Double check all the Wiring 8) .... 9) Profit! So close!!! I actually tried to start it, but it would sputter and die. I thought I might get lucky and just have it work without cleaning the carb. Not so much! The good news is that I was getting some headlight action, so it appears the old stator is working.

The good news... it idled for about 30 seconds this morning. ;D ;D The bad news... it stalled and hasn't started since. No Spark. I went through the Spark Diagnostics and it looks like my old 11 pole stator is toast. Nothing is registering on the supply or trigger wires. When I crank the motor, the headlights will barely glow now, too. I'm not surprised, because I was having some charging issues before the motor seized on me. I was just hoping it might have been something else. It looks like I'll be ordering a new stator, but is there any chance of rewiring the 8 pole stator to work? Maybe just as a temporary fix?

That's a tempting idea, but I don't know if I have the patience for a project like that. Eh, maybe I'll try it on a rainy day, but I think for now I'm just going to replace it. Looks like I'll be waiting for my next payday. Getting paid once a month is not fun.

Excellent! A day ahead of schedule! I'll get the hoses in the mail to you... soon. LOL
I've got some serious cleanup to do my garage. Bits and pieces of motor and hardware everywhere! I'm lucky my wife has been extremely patient while I rebuild this thing!

Just placed an order with ScrappyDog: New 11 pole stator, orange coil and cdi, and a brake lever assembly and cable to use the drum brake on the new motor. Plus a new front brake lever, because the original one broke when I dropped the bike over a year ago.
I'm also going to get myself some feeler gauges to adjust the valves and buy some gasket material to do Rich's enricher block-off mod.
Hopefully I'll have it all before the weekend! I want to ride this thing!

I am getting ready to put a new top end on my 50, I think I will pull the motor, for ease and cleaning, everything works mechanically, but I think after 8k miles, it is tired of breathing properly, no longer will fire. I orded a compression tester, we shall see. I will continue to follow the Matrix. Tom Cometman

The camera lense had fogged up a bit, so that's why there is a haze. So, this is how she looks in the garage at the moment: As I said before, I'm not a big fan of the chrome CVT cover. This is the factory CVT cover I'm going to put back on it, once its gotten a new coat of paint. Once she's up and running to my satisfaction, I'll start work on reassembling the body. I've got some body work and painting to do.

First of all, I think that chrome CVT cover is really cool.
Second, I've never had any experience with an oil cooled GY6, is that the radiator behind the front cowl?
Can you tell me a little about how it hooks to the engine and the oil is pumped through it? I'm trying to fashion an oil cooler for mine so I can lose the cooling shroud. Rich

Rich, its more that I'm not a big fan of chrome in general. The cover itself isn't bad, and I think with a good polishing it would really shine. However, I want to keep the UM branding (even though as a company they screwed me over) and I've got some paint ideas I want try on that cover. As for the oil cooled GY6, you are correct... that's the radiator. The system is completely passive, with no fans. The oil is just pumped through the radiator up front. The QMK blocks are cast with oil pathways that feed the hoses to the radiator. I'll refer you to an older picture from my motor disassembly where you can see where the hoses attach. They're right below the cylinder on the front of the block, you can see the head of one of the banjo bolts. Its one of these bolts that I could not extract from my new motor to swap out the oil hoses. If someone is really interested, I could probably take some close up shots on the new motor. For a non-QMK block, obviously this wouldn't work well. But, you could probably fashion something similar to the Good Dr. JR. ;D

We need to take all your posts and make a tech manual out of it Josh. Good luck! Thanks. That's along the lines of why I've documented the whole process... so others can know what I went through! Its been slow going, I think I see the light at the end of the tunnel... I just hope it isn't a train!

Wow, thanks man that's perfect. A guy could hook a muffin fan up against that no problem. I'm stoked! ;D Rich
