Thinking of upgrading my scoot By bdub (Read 2,000 times)

I have a 50cc, generic scooter that won't break 35, was wondering were to start if i wanted more power and a greater top end. Any help would be greatly appreciated

This is my favorite set up for the 50's and your best bang for the buck.
88cc (52mm) big bore kit
Main jet 2 drill number sizes bigger.
K and N style filter
1500rpm torque spring
9.5 gram sliders
Watch color of spark plug to fine tune

Good combo, What is your top speed with that setup so Bdub can decide if he wants to go into the engine or just go with CVT Tuneing and Fuel Tuneing and possibley a Less restrictive Muffler.

My wife's will just hit 50mph tested with GPS. It will totally out perform a lightly modded Zuma. I haven't seen a 50cc that needed a performance exhaust yet till you add a hot cam, big valve head, and bigger carb. 150cc bikes use the same size pipe as the 50's so there is usually plenty of breathing capacity there for the 50's.

Will the 88cc/52mm kit require any case mods, or is it a direct bolt on to the stock cases?

Sounds like a combo i might try out as well.

I have only done one that I had to open up the case. That was my old 2006. Every other one I have done it fit rite in.

One other thing. I have used kits from Scrappydog and NCY. The Scrappydod kits have a thicker cylinder then the NCY kits. I don't know why but Scrappydogs prices are cheaper on Ebay then on his website.

Scrappy did honor the Ebay "buy it now" price last week when I purchased the high performance camshaft he had listed. However I did place a seperate order tho from him for my replacement crankshaft and other needed parts. He did combine shipping and shipped the camshaft with the rest of my parts in the same package(due in monday) .

I have to say thatbi have bean very happy with the service I have gotten from Scrappydod. Just remember the parts are usually "original equipment quality" meaning standard Chinese stuff. There shipping is very quick! about 2 days to me.

Thanks for the replies. I'm thinking of getting a 100cc bbk. I guess the first question is, should i install the kit first or upgrade some other stuff before hand?

Also, what kind of change would i get out of CVT and Fuel tuning? I'm mainly looking for a higher top end, and i may go this route if the bbk looks like it would cost too much.

Changing the variator rollers to a heavier weight will increase your top end MPH. It's cheap to do, and an easy install.

cool going to try that, also there is a copper plug over my air/fuel mix screw. I just read somewhere i could drill that out, im cautious about drilling into my carb. Did i read that right?

A word of caution. Don't use the 9.5 gram sliders with a stock torque spring. Way to heavy. I would remove your old ones, weigh them and then go about 2 grams heavier if you use sliders. Sometimes changing the CDI can improve top speed. Its not very often and usually on the more expense scoots.
