Reading and watching adds it seems there are stocks of 2008 Mopeds out there. Since I was a Harley freek in 2008, I have no idea what a Moped was selling for then. I wonder how much more a brand new 2008 costs now than in 2008. $ ideas folks? Next thought is if this keeps up will prices jump on units as the New Old stock is depleated?

Most of the surviving distributors are offering good discounts on the 08 and 09 units to the dealers. Now if the dealers get greedy then the retail prices will reflect it. If they are smart they will pass the savings on to the buyers and go for increased sales. As for pricing increases on the incoming 011 units that will be determined by the manufacturers. There may be increases based on labor and material cost increases.

There were 16" wheeled scooters selling for $1700 in 2008. Nothing costs that much online. New 16" wheeled scooters go for around $1400. GSMotorworks sells current 13" wheeled scooters for $1000, about $300 less than they sold them for three years ago. They may go up but I doubt by that much.

The only problem we had with my 'new' 09 TGB R9i was with the gas left in the carb from testing 3 years ago. You could chip the varnish out of the carb bowl and it took rejetting with high performance jets and cleaning the carb thoroughly before it would crank. It is a Taiwanesae bike. All the rubber was in good shape.

If I was going to buy a 2008 leftover this would be at the top of my list. Click image for link No screaming about the seller! I'm good enough to shake out the bugs and get any parts I need from GS Motorworks. As far as I can determine this puppy is the most long lived of the generic Chinese scooter. Of course if I could score a bargain CF Moto all bets would be off.

If I was going to buy a 2008 leftover this would be at the top of my list. Yeah, those are cool KZ, you've always liked that style...it is very nice. KZ and I have talked quite a bit about Green Earth and the potential for a decent scooter. My wife and I bought our first scooters from them. They had bought up a boatload, probably literally true, of 2008 scooters at the time and we snagged a couple. It looks like they're about to wind down on those. We got the 2008 version of this scooter for $700.00:

I see it's about $350.00 more now. When we bought from Green Earth they were the ultimate drop shipper. Two crates with scooters in them showed up with no instructions and a lot of assembly. Taking a chance on a older cheap crate scooter is a chance to get a good deal if you know how to work on them. You can also get stuck with a piece of crap. Rich

I'm glad the old stock is running out. I just got 2 new VIP's made by Peace Motor sports for resale. They are 2011 models and after assembly and PDI they seam to be better quality then the older ones I have worked on. I just wanted to have a couple on had for customers who bring in a total wreak of a scooter they have the option of getting a new one. I won't make much on them at $750.00 but it all helps.

That Carino that kz is checking out is the same as my first scooter - the Znen built Lance Milan. I put a lot of miles on that bike. Bought it 2007 for $1300. I ended up selling these and the Flyscooter La Vie for $1800 in 2008 - sold about 50 or 60 of them...The La Vie seemed to hold up better than the Lance Milan. Unfortunately most of my customers (college kids) did not keep up with my strongly suggested service schedule...so I don't have a good idea of the reliability of a well maintained bike...I put 10,000 mi on mine with a lot of upkeep. The 2007 chinese bikes seemed to be a little better made than the 2008.

Well I know I keep harping on him, but dorian had his Lance Milan for 26,000 miles before he broke the frame. According to him he did a lot of bolt tightening, bulb replacement and routine maintenance. He did that 26,000 in just over a year. I calculated about 400 miles a week of constant use at or near 50 mph every day. That sounded pretty solid to me. He lived near San Francisco which is also pretty hilly too.

That was good service on the Lance. I have a TGB 150 Delivery with 7000 miles on it, runs like a clock, needs a rear tire soon but other than that it is fine. Mountain moped sold a TGB 150 Del to a commercial photographer who uses it in his work. He brought it in for servicing with 30,000 miles on it. All it needed was a new belt, rear tire, and the rest was basic tune up,plug, vale adj., air filter, oil change. The trick to it is to do regular fluid changes and basic tuneups.
