I can't describe the feeling I get on a scooter. "man and machine at one" just doesn't quite get there. There is a feeling of freedom, adventure, and I don't know what else. I have never been able to put it into words. I know if everyone had a chance to experience it, there would be more on the roads. What is it about scooting? besides feeling free, etc, is it the element of danger? I don't think it is because there is nothing else I like to do that is dangerous. Heck, I hate to fly. I do it but I hate it. So lets see if we can figure out how to put it into words. What is it about scooting that is so addicting? Lets hear your thoughts.

Love it. It feels like a magic carpet ride. (I know there was a song in the sixties titled "Magic carpet ride". I just can't think of it right now. It will come to me later.) Wonderful wording Luke.

To me it's an awakening. All the senses come alive. I become more aware of my surroundings. I'm able to enjoy scenery, sounds, and smells that I wouldn't even notice while driving a car. I enjoy driving, in general, because of the sense of freedom I get, but scooting adds so much more by removing the cage and adding a sense of adventure and excitement. Scooters require minimum driving input from us and they allow us to enjoy the ride. Sort of an oasis on wheels from the everyday routine. Oh, did I mention it's a lot of fun too?

that is so true. The scenery comes alive for me. The smells, the sounds, and God's beautiful earth. The whole scooting experience for me is more than I ever expected it to be. I got my scooter on my 61st birthday. Didn't know anyone who had one, had never ridden one. Just got it on a whim because i was getting old and wanted to feel young again. Boy did I get a surprise!. I f I had known the feeling of freeness, flying, and being close to nature that it brought to me, I would have been scootin' long before this.

come on, people. I know some of you are better at expressing yourselves than I am. So far, I like the magic carpet best, but I bet someone can come up with something else (If not, thats ok to. we can just let this thread die.

The wind in your hair and the bugs in your teeth. ;D Oh what a feeling. Roy There we go. I love it. I knew we had creative people out there! Yep, that sums it up nicely also. How about another contest!! Drum roll......... Wait for it............ Lets see who can come up with the best phrase to sum up scooting. so far we have 1. Scooting is like a magic carpet ride. 2. The wind in your hair and the bugs in your teeth, Oh what a feeling 3.You're right, aint it great ( I shouldn't count that one but I am hard up) OK i need at least 2 more phrases that describe scooting before I make another needless, useless poll.

I'm not going to get all romantic. Bikes are direct. Every control is mechanical so you're connected to it. No power brakes, no power steering, no cushy suspension. You feel everything. The result of every steering input, every ripple in the highway, even when you turn you have to lean and countersteer. In comparison a car is isolating and almost by remote control. You hear the engine, feel the engine and the road and know everything that's happening is a result of what you're doing.

mthomas, you will have to explain that to me. Drive it like you rented it? you mean extra carefully because a rented vehicle is not yours? I don't get it.
I drive mine carefully out of the fear of what a stupid mistake can do-death to rider.

Most people say, "Drive it like you stole it" which means drive it as fast as humanly possible as if you stole the vehicle and you are trying to make a get-a-way. Since our scoots only go 50-60 mph, it would be more like you rented it, not stole it. Guess it was not that funny.

Actually, it is funny now that I understand it. mthomas. I will add that to our poll. :)Now for the big surprise. The winner of this useless poll will receive a prize from jryan. Yep you hear correctly. JR will ship to you, across the country or anywhere in the world, third class, a dozen of his very ripe tomatos. How is that for a prize? ;D Of course, with the addition of this wonderful prize, I expect a lot more participation.
