Ok the scooter has been ordered now next question, the correct helmet. I'm looking at both full face and modular any one better, safer or more comfortable than another? Of course my #1 priority is that my head and face is safe! Thanks for any info you have. BWD.

Congratulations on becoming a scooter owner. Which one did you decide on?
I will be moving this thread to general discussion.
I have the modular helmet which I find to be very comfortable. I wear glasses and the modular helmet makes it a lot easier to remove and put on the helmet and glasses. Make sure it is a DOT helmet. I also found the modular helmets to fit me better, but helmet fit is a very personal thing because you cannot go strictly by head size. A hat will conform to the shape of your head while a helmet is more limited because of the hard shell. Also, the shape of your face has to be taken into consideration with full face and to a lesser extent with modular helmets. I found some helmets would squeeze my cheek bones too much while others would be tight on the jaw line. When you do find a comfortable helmet, shake your head from side to side and up and down while wearing the helmet. The helmet should not move on your head.
Remember, dark colored helmets can be hot to wear in the summer. White and silver are probably the coolest colors.

Honesltly Middle btw welcome I've never seen a post by you before anyways I thought about the question about different helmets. I would go with the modular especially if you wear glasses easier to take on and off but I would only wear that helmet during the winter months or if its raining and you have to ride. The other helmet I would buy is a open face and not the german type cause those are for ones that dare to use it and bonk there head on the sidewalk and have the firefighters pick up the pieces later. I bought a full face for $40 at my friends cycle shop and there a good deal there web site is :http://www.fullhousecycles.com/map_hours.asp
just copy and paste it there good people, I bought my helmet on a friday ordered and it was on my head monday afternoon. I'll give you the specs of what helmet it is if you'd like just ask. but having two helmets is good because you wear one during the cold months and the hot one's you wont have to take the heat.

I started with a full face because I didn't know they made mods. It was a pain because I wear glasses. For Christmas I got a Hawk mod with a drop down sun visor in addition to the regular visor. It can be worn as open face or full face, visor/no visor. It ran me $94 on sale from Leatherup.cpm. Like Cruiser says, fit is important and be sure your helmet is DOT. Shell certified is even better.

middleagescooter, I too, am curious, which scoot did you go with? For advice about helmet, I would go to a motorcycle shop and try some on. Even if you end up buying on the net, at least you will have a general idea of what you like. I have an open face and a full face. The open face one, I get bugs splating on my face all summer. A bug hitting your face when you are going 55 or 60 miles an hour can really sting. Of course I wear sun glasses to protect my eyes. Now on my full face, my face screen is adjustable, I can lift it all the way up and wear my sunglasses or, put it partially down with my sun glasses, or when its cooler or at night, where it almost all the way down. It gives me more of a choice than my other helmet. It really is a personal preference. As long as it is a DOT rated helmet, go try some on, then order the one you feel most comfortable with. Trying them on first will also give you an idea of what size you wear. Although different helmets run different in shape to your head and face, I have found that I wear a small in any helmet I have tried on.

This weekend will be spent helmet shopping, and maybe i will take the advice of a few of you and purchase 2 helmets. Thanks for all your input.

I bet they waited til you paid for it before they told ya too right? Same story with a lot of the dropshippers. Pretty shoddy way to do business if ya ask me. Hey let me know when ya get it. I might come over and help ya get it PDI'd. (if your in Trenton) and take ya for a cruise up along the river.

I had a standard FF helmet then went to a Modular. Will NEVER go back to a standard one. It is to convenient. lets you take a drink at a light, put it on and take it off without taking off your sunglasses, etc.
