We had a very warm winter then, snow in April here in Vegas. That may not mean much to some of you but, I believe our temps this summer will break high heat records. I expect Highs between 110F and 115F during July and August at least. Any cooling tips are welcomed. My little QMB thanks you for the ideas!!!!

... The cvt transmission... I put in a higher flow air filter, CAUTION there is a reason your trans has a air intake filter, much of road dust is actually Crystal rock bits and will screw up your belt and variator face surface, those little sparkles you see on the road are "asbestos" and highly abrasive, so the CVT filter is a must... No OEM filter came on mine but I was planning to install a screen.

Yep, anything you can do to get more air to parts of the engine and cvt is a win win situation. Also after break in I use Castrol 10W-40 Full synthetic as well as Full synthetic in the tranny. On the CVT air intake snout mine came with just a rubber grid and no foam piece or anything. I have a brand new CVT cover that IB had sent me back in 2009 so after I get it modded I think I will take the Old one off and cut open around the Clutch and Variator for extra cooling. Cause It will Hopefully wake up the Bear From Its Hibernation and start tearing up some asphalt . Alleyoop

I just got a 85cfm DC fan from Radio Shack on Saturday to mod in. Will post pics later this week. I still need to post pic of my new body mods and a vid of the kickin' stereo!!!

This is an interesting thread. Here are my thoughts which for the most part are not backed by analytical data but probably may be partly correct since I don't think anyone has done any specific analysis. 1. I don't think trying to keep road dust out of the CVT area is as important as trying to keep the unit cool. The amount of crap generated by belt and clutch wear is much greater than external input unless you do a lot of off-roading in very muddy conditions. A coarse screen at the air intake should give maximum cooling while keeping out large stuff. 2. The head cooling idea with additional electric fans sounds interesting, but I wonder if it really works. I'm assuming the fans are being mounted at the air inlet on the side of the engine. Using computer cooling fans will keep the electrical load to a minimum, but they have relatively low volume compared to the main cooling fan. I have no actual air flow numbers for the main fan, but I know that a typical electric radiator fan used in scoots is rated at 1100 CFM. The computer fan may help cooling when the engine is idling, but may not at driving speeds. I would think it would actually block air flow because the main fan will try to pull in more air than the computer fan can pass. A much more powerful fan might work OK, but then you would eventually kill the battery. A high performance main cooling fan (if they really work) would probably give the best results. 3. Another mod which should give good results is the add-on oil cooler. These engines use the oil as large portion of the cooling and keeping the oil temps down will give major benefits. For you do-it-yourselfers, here's Dr. Jr's prescription right from the archives: JR's oil cooler

The Oil cooler is a good idea, now my concern would be the ability of the little pumps being able to pump the oil through the radiator. I would not want to get caught with a partial amount of oil in the crankcase. Alleyoop

@ Cruiser. I am not sure how others are using the computer fans, but mine will be mounted to point at the valve cover, and primarily will be used during idle, and stop and go traffic, and not be on during long trips where airflow is not really an issue. I agree on the oil cooler and have a cooler I plan on modding in sometime, unless I just replace my engine this year with one of the crate ones from Scrappydog......

bigger cooling fins i would think that would help alot on these scoots.when i build monkey engines i allways get the new cylinder with bigger fins....
also......i allso use glyptal in my engines it helps keep oil clean and flowing better. it fills in all those tiny pores in casting. buford

Enough about this heat crap just go out and get an Air Conditioner and problem solved. Or get a block of Ice and put it in a bag and put it in front where the wind hits it BETTER YET USE a SCOOP to direct the air into it and DONE. Alleyoop
