Hello all. I got my new scooter in about a week ago and after changing the oil and charging the battery, it seems to be running like a champ with one exception.

When I start the scoot, it idles around 2k RPM's. Is this too high? Should it idle at 1500?

After idling for about 2-3 minutes, all of a sudden, my engine stutters to a stop like it's getting no fuel. I'm just trying to let the scoot sit there and warm up and it dies. If I give it gas on the throttle, it runs fine and doesn't miss a beat, but that means I'm constantly on the throttle to keep it from dying. I can't let off at a stop sign or anything.

I've checked in the Air, Fuel, and Carb section of the forums and think I need to adjust either my idle, or air/fuel ratio (possibly both). I was just hoping for a little guidance before I started tearing into (possibly the wrong) things.

Here you go after you adjust your Fuel Ratio you can then lower the Idle down to where it is running the smoothest and the Rear Wheel Is NOT spinning.

Let it warm up at least 5 minutes.

ADJUSTING YOUR FUEL RATIO SCREW:

1.Turn the Fuel Ratio Screw Counter Clockwise 1/4 and wait 10-15 seconds to allow the engine to catch up with the new setting.
a. If the IDLE GOES up repeat 1 until the IDLE does not go up or it does nothing.
b. Then turn it 1/8 Clockwise that should be the highest IDLE you can get out of the Fuel Ratio Screw.

**** IF on the First 1/4 Turn the IDLE DOES NOT go up or does nothing THEN Turn the Screw Back 1/4 and GO TO 2.

2. Turn the Fuel Ratio Screw Clockwise 1/4 and wait 10-15 seconds to allow the engine to catch up with the new setting.
a. If the IDLE GOES up repeat 2 until the IDLE does not go up or it does nothing.
b. Then turn it 1/8 Counter Clockwise that should be the highest IDLE you can get out of the Fuel Ratio Screw.

*** IF 1 OR 2 DOES NOT CHANGE THE IDLE you have a Clogged Pilot Jet or its Passages and you will have to Clean the Jets and Passages out.***

Earthman is right.. do the air/fuel thing and adjust your throttle screw. These scooters idle at about 1700 rpm.. quite fast...once it is broken in then you will want to fine tune the settings...

The enrichers actually don't shut down... They work by a brass pin extending into the carburator and this leans the mixture to the normal operating level.

When the enricher is cold, it is by default in a 'rich fuel' state for starting.

There is a heater in them and when the scooter runs the heater mets a pellet of wax, The wax expands and pushes the needle forward. As the engine reaches operating temperature the wax
is kept liquid by the heat of the engine and the enricher heater shuts off...


This super fast motion shows how they work... they usually take 4-5 minutes...

Alleyoop - As I said before, I have to give it gas while it sits there or it just dies and won't warm up. Is this ok? Also, with my dilemma, I don't want to be feeding gas while making these adjustments, so it might die on me before I can actually turn the screw. Is it ok to make these adjustments until it's getting enough fuel to stay idling on its own?

Yes, turn the IDLE SPEED SCREW, it is the one on the side by the Throttle Cable, it has a SPRING ON IT. Turn it CLOCKWISE about 1/8 or so before you start it and see if it stays running it not turn it another 1/8 turn until it stays running. Then let it warm up for at least 5 minutes idleing then you can adjust it.

I just re-read your first entry, and what i think is that you rPILOT JET and OR PILOT Jet Passages are clogged.

But you will know if they are WHEN adjusting the Fuel Ratio Screw WHEN TURNING IT IT DOES NOT CHANGE your IDLE then they are clogged.

What is happening is it starts up good BUT that is because it is getting fuel from the ENRICHER(CHOKE). Once it gets warm about 2-4 minutes the ENRICHER(CHOKE) shuts off and then you are not getting fuel anymore and that is why it dies.

If my suspensions are correct, then take the carb off and take the bowl off and get a Can of SPRAY CARB CLEANER, they come with a long thin straw.
Take the Jets out and clean them spray into them and spray should come out the other ends.


Then Spray into the PILOT JET hole and Spray should come out by the Pilot jet holes here:


Then Spray into the MAIN JET hole and Spray should come out by the Needle here:

On the schedule for tomorrow is to FINALLY make these adjustments and clean out my carb. Hopefully, this is the last question related to this topic:

Before disassembling the carb and cleaning it out, should I drain the fuel from the gas tank?

No you do not have to drain the tank. Just disconnect the fuel line from the Carb and point it up so fuel does not drip out all over the place. You can drain the Carb bowl or just be carefull and pull it out level so the gas in the bowl does not spill out.

As I was getting ready to re-assemble the carb, this small part fell out of one of the large openings, and I don't know where it goes!





Can anyone tell me where it goes in the carb (or lead me to a picture)? Right now the scoot is in the condition of the first pic and I want to ride it again! ;D

Hi guy

I need help,i bought a new racing dc cdi orange.but went i plug in at my scooter the idle speed goes up n down then stalk. my current rpm 1500 set after 20 min warmup. my bike is Cpi Gtr 180cc
any idea guy wat cause or setting i have to do?

OK, so I took a shot and found what I think is the spot that part goes to. Now the scooter is idling again around 1500-1700 rpm. Unfortunately, any time I give it any throttle AT ALL, it dies on me.

Ideas anyone?

You may have that part in backwards try turning it around...

OK, I flipped that part around and still the same problem. It idles around 1500 RPM but dies when given ANY throttle.

Anyone know what to try next?

Put the stock CDI etc back on and see if that changes things... maybe the CDI or coil is no good...

Are you certain the plug is attached to the boot properly?
