Greetings all. New here and thought i would show off my engine transplant. I have a 2009 Jonway VIP 50cc. I bought her new with less then 1 mile on it. At the time that I bought her I really didn't have a clue about scooters or the following that they have. The reason i decided to buy a scooter was well I blew the engine in my mini van. And i really didn't have the money to fix or replace it. I'm a full time college student trying to get some reeducation after the economy dropped here. Not having much money I wanted to get something cheap and easy to maintain.

I didn't take any pics of her when i bought her. For the first 2500 miles she ran great no problems or issues with her. Other then i did need a new belt and battery after a year. At 2505 miles she soft seized on me. This is when i found the world of scooter tuning. lol. When searching online for a new engine or parts I came across BBK kits and complete engines. Boy let me tell ya what I was in pure heaven. lol. Well to make a long story a little shorter i did a BBK from scrappydogscooter

well to be honest I didn't do a really good job at installing it and she didn't last long again. Did one more and same thing. Next i did a stock crank, head, piston, all new bearings, rings and gaskets, new belt clutch variater rollers everything but a new case.

She ran good but now i knew there was so much more out there that I could do. Well luck would have it and my Income tax came in and a school stifes check came in at the same time. Boy it was on and I was a happy camper.

Did a lot of reading and Google searches and decided what the hell lets try to max out the little 50cc and have some fun. And the upgrade began.

ok now to the good part. Im sorry i didnt take many good pics of the install as when i get going I forget to snap pics. lol

After all this and only only got bite once by the scoot. lol

Got a little bit more done on "the Buggy" (name was given by boss and it kind of stuck to it). Got all three gauges hooked up and working. Oil pressure, Oil temp, and Volts. Made the pod mounts for them out of 1 1/4" PVC connector pipe cut at a 45 degree. Then i tried to epoxy them together and paint gloss black but the epoxy didn't hold. But the way i have them mounted with 2 screws each pod they wont move and still looks good. I was worried about how to mount the gauges in the pods, as I pushed one in to get an idea the one screw in the front inside of the pod sticks out just enough that it pushes on the gauge and holds it in nice and tight.

The volts is showing 12 volts with the key on was trying to see if the lights were working but sun was out and could not see.
After the gauges I did my first post engine swap oil change (no pics as I'm sure we all know how to do that, lol).
Next came some "chrome" looking wire loom. I started to just do the main wires around the engine (starter, coil, etc. etc. etc.) When done with that I saw I had a lot left over so I just went wild. LOL







All in all I think she looks good. The speakers on the handle bars are for my 100w stereo as long as the motor is off she sounds good, but when I star it up and try to listen to it I get more engine noise and squawks and popping that it hurts the ears. I've tried different grounds and I've even wired it right to the battery and no difference. When it was hooked up to my 50cc I didn't have any problems with it. I'm looking for a noise isolator and hope that works.






Well that's all for now I will try to get some pics of the gauges tonight when the sun goes down and see who the lights work. Did a little re wiring to them and I hope it works. If not you'll never know cuz i aint saying what I did. LOL

That is a SWEEEET Scoot. GREAT WORK!!!!!! Black is the fastest color BTW so good choice.

Your parts list could have paid my mortgage for 3 months. Money well spent IMO ;D

I got lots of questions but, Enjoy the Manwich for now, I think you deserve a steak and lobster though.

That has to be one of the best little 50cc scoots out there

Thanx everyone for the nice complements.

Let me start with the engine.

Its a 161QML the actual CC is 189cc but we all round up on these GY6 so its a 200cc. I plan on rebuilding it on day with a stroker crank and a BBK which should make it an actual 200cc. Its fast as hell well faster then the stock 50cc. lol. I did kind of race a 150 today on my way to class, he said my scoot looked slow and that he could beat me at half throttle. well when he caught up to me at the next red light he just wouldn't look me in eye. lol

The fan that i have is not one of the UV lights. I'm still saving those for my comp. lol

The parts list that i have listed is well more then i wanted to spend but hey I had fun and I love it. If I had to do it again I might of changed a few things and well ordered more. lol.

Feel free to ask any questions you have or want to know. I'll answer anything on how i did something I don't believe in keeping my build secrets to myself. If i did something and someone else wants to copy it then go for it.

Got a couple more upgrades I'm looking to do soon, like a 13" front rim. New handle bar setup.maybe a rear fatty tire setup. New head light set up (would like to see where I'm going at night) And just a few other odds and ends.

Great looking scoot, Tim. And to think it started out looking like my VIP50:



Some of this particular model came from the factory as 60cc scoots (44mm bore). Did you measure the bore when you did the first engine tear down?

I did not measure the piston when i took it out. But the 50mm that i bought for it was way so much bigger then original. And im pretty sure it was stock cuz it just wouldn't get out of its own way going down hill with a tail wind being pushed buy a jet engine. ;D And yes your scoot could be mines twin brother. Sub the yellow wit red and its a bingo.

I like it! I've got the same engine (from scrappy) in my Matrix, but not really any perf parts to go with it. Just the stock stuff from my original 170.

What's your top speed? (real, not chino)

Today going to a friends house i hit 57 according to my GPS. Last week i hit 59 according to a LCSO street radar my GPS said 56. Thats only at 3/4 throttle still scared to open her up with the small 10" tire up front.

What's the actual bore and stroke for it? I saw you said 189cc is the actual size which I had been wondering how much they were rounding on those. Let us know how it holds up to, I am considering snagging one if/when I blow my motor. ;D

Nice! The highest I've seen on my bicycle speedo (verified by gps) is 63. This was at full throttle, in a tuck. I'm sure I could do better, but I need to tune my CVT.

A few people have asked how i hooked up my oil temp gauge. I took a few pics that will help understand how i did it. My engine came with the oil cooler already attached with pre-drilled oil inlet and outlet ports for the cooler lines.



Hope the pics can give you a idea of what i did, I know i should of put the temp before the cooler but i just didn't have enough room for the presure and temp in the same location.
