Sumtimes fine others too high or too low..it jus seems to vary.. Starts fine sumtimes cold an idles fine others it starts out fine at 1st but then will keep dying ..HELP..I am lost an confused w/ this b/c it used to run fine.. This all stared when it started leaking fuel out bottom of carb at the bowl drain. this carb does not the drain screw but has the ert type thing w/hose linne attached with drian thing on end of it. the hose was all cracked an leaking..So...I fixed the leak,,put new NGK plug in it,,Change the oil,,I use Mobil 1 15/50,,,an also added bout 1 oz of carb cleaner to the fuel since it sat allot of the winter,,,,NOW since I did all that,,havin major problems w/ the above mentioned...... Welcome ThinkGy6, Sounds like the carb needs to be cleaned out. The Pilot Jet and Passages are probably a little clogged. If the Idle goes up and down it usually means it is starting up to Lean(not enough gas). So first thing is to take the Carb off and take the bowl off and Get a Spray Can of Carb Cleaner they come with a thin straw. First take the Pilot Jet out and the Main Jet. Clean those and then Stick the Thin Straw into the Holes and Spray to clean out the Passages. Here is what it will look like and where the Spray from clearing the passages will come out. Alleyoop Spray Into the Pilot Jet Hole and Spray should come out here: Spray into the Main Jet Hole and Spray should come out here: Then Turn the Fuel Ratio Screw Clockwise until it stops and then turn it 2 1/2 turn COUNTER CLOCKWISE. Put the Carb Back on And make sure the Vacumm Hoses are NOT cracked if so replace them. Here is a picture of the what it MIght Look like around your Carb: Here is a Picture of what the Carb Probably looks like so you know what is what: Then Time to Fine Tune your Carb: ADJUSTING YOUR FUEL RATIO SCREW: Warm Up the SCOOT for at least 5 minutes. YOU WANT THE HIGHEST IDLE OUT OF THE FUEL RATIO SCREW YOU CAN GET. ADJUST YOUR RUEL RATIO: 1.Turn the Fuel Ratio Screw Counter Clockwise 1/4 and wait 10-15 seconds to allow the engine to catch up with the new setting. a. If the IDLE GOES up repeat 1 until the IDLE does not go up or it does nothing. b. Then turn it 1/8 Clockwise that should be the highest IDLE you can get out of the Fuel Ratio Screw. **** IF on the First 1/4 Turn the IDLE DOES NOT go up or does nothing THEN Turn the Screw Back 1/4 and GO TO 2. 2. Turn the Fuel Ratio Screw Clockwise 1/4 and wait 10-15 seconds to allow the engine to catch up with the new setting. a. If the IDLE GOES up repeat 2 until the IDLE does not go up or it does nothing. b. Then turn it 1/8 Counter Clockwise that should be the highest IDLE you can get out of the Fuel Ratio Screw. *** IF 1 OR 2 DOES NOT CHANGE THE IDLE you have a Clogged Pilot Jet or its Passages and you will have to Clean the Jets and Passages out.*** If all is well then you can Lower Your IDLE if need be USING the IDLE SPEED SCREW. Idle should be around 1500-1800 and the REAR WHEEL should NOT be Spinning. Alleyoop

I agree with Alley, clean the carb...
Second...re-gap the valves...
My scooter started rolling on idle up and down... up and down. I also had the starter problem also. Sometimes it would crank the engine other times it wouldn't.
I adjusted the valve gaps and the idle is absolutely stable...and the starter works like a dream....
The valves were exceedingly tight...no play at all...
I gapped the top valve to .004 INCH and the bottom to .005 INCH...

As far as the battery problems get you battery 'tender'. I got mine from 'Wallyworld' for $18 dollars four years ago. Whenever my scooter is parked in my garage I leave the charger plugged in and I'm on the same battery (not counting the battery that came with the scoot and lasted 3 months).
