I have been reading scooter things for months now and wonder why if 50 guys want more top end they don't regear?

They usually run out of power before they run out of gearing. After a big bore kit and CVT upgrades then a gearing change may be in order.

What are the jets for? Have you changed the exhaust or the air filter?

What are the jets for? Have you changed the exhaust or the air filter? Just to play with it. But we both know in spite of what is said here that exhaust and intake are built in restrictors for the 50's.

Manny of us 50 guys do Up or down gear depending on what you want from the scoot. Tuning the CVT is often a better, easier choice unless you up the displacement. Like jhbietz pointed out. 50cc don't have the required power to utilize gear changes without being a dog or to hyper. Just to clarify for me I don't remember ever reading that stock exhaust or intake don't restrict flow. In fact those restrictions are the exact reason to go free flow. BTW no need to rejet for new rollers and you may find that spring is not what you want when tuned properly. You can play with it and I'm all for experimenting but. no need to fix what ain't broke IMO. New jets will either flood or restrict the gas flow. No need to change unless your adding more air. Better to play with the carb A/F and idle screws, Or needle clip.

Since I decided to keep it instead of sell it it's the test bed for this week. ( Orriginal post said toy but apparently that was a poor word choice for some here, not meaning to offend anyone Im changing wording). The rollers and spring were reccomended by Mo@ Scrappy dog because I have some pretty big hills to climb. I am not opposed to playing with it more but if I do Im spending monies that are better spent on the new bike on order. The jets are an after thought probably dont need them. Actually the thing runs like two bikes. Start it on a cool morning everything works great even later in the day. Took it back out in the afternood for over two hours it ran GREAT!! Rain all night started it to go to little store started hard ran crappy. Tomorrow it will be another bike rofl. Time to get the new one and stop playing.

Did you actually talk/correspond with Moe? The tech talk @ scrappys has decent info but, a little more research could provide a bit better info when deciding what upgrades to play with. IMO these little 50cc are NOT just toys. People DIE riding them. In fact many of us depend on them to make a living. Oh BTW, These little engines can be sensitive to weather changes like you mentioned. That's part of the scooter tuning fun A bigger jet and harder spring will only add to the play time of starting These scoots like cooler weather by nature and runn better when it cool (not to cold). The humidity can make them rough running Unless tuned. Rollers wont help that

I had the same issue after picking up the scoot last night with the new tires on it. It runs ridiculously well in the morning but the hotter and more humid it gets, the crappier it performs on the top end. Sounds like it is time to get that brass plug out of the carb.

The rollers and spring are to help on the mountains I have here. Its not real safe to be in a 45 MPH zone on a big hill and be going 15 to 20. I find a safe spot and let others pass. As far as it becoming a toy, (I just changed the post to test bed to not offend others). People getting killed on them, I have ridden nonstop from 16 to now approaching 65. and I am well aware of the needs of the road. I am also well aware of the dangers can be present. What every biker, needs to understand is when you think you have it mastered and are a really good rider the trouble starts. As far as depending on it, it is my first mode of daily transportation, second is 4X4 truck. Hmm 80 / 90 MPG Vs. 14 to 18, no brainer there. Agreed on weather conditions. Wildfire runs at all temps I have run it from the mid 30's to the 80 to 90's, but it runs as you say best in cool, not cold weather. Now on the other hand Mrs. Newbies Ice Bear 50 Trike hates anything below 40 F.

Seems I owe an apology to you Newbie. There was no need to change the original post or reword anything. No one was offended. I assumed With the screen name that you were New. I would hate to see a novice treat anything with wheels as a toy but, It happens all to often IMO. Now that you can afford a few play things, Live it up and have a blast Brother!!!!! Just be careful like always. Leave the stunt riding and mile long wheelies to the young ones Btw, I only asked about talking with Moe cause I have sent a few E-mails and never got responses until I drove down to scrappys and got parts in person. I thought Moe was a generic person. Have you thought about a BBK to Play with? 72cc and an up gear will dominate the hills better than just trans tuning can. 44 mph all the way up you speed demon Just hope for a tail wind to hit 45 Maybe even 50 on the flat. If I could just find a stroker crank for a QMB the world would be great!!!!

LOL not a problem the 89 newbie is a handle that started because Mrs newbie wanted an 89 Dodge Dakota and it was so bad I joined Dak sites. To be truthful this is the first time in years I have played with a motor and after doing cars and trucks the parts are so cheap. Mo, yep he has responded to me 5 times. Im actually doing this to learn, new 150 should arrive early next week, this one will go to Mrs Newbies son.
