so on my way to work , I merged on wot started to get up to top end . all was great quick fart stall , walked it to the shoulder tried to start it the flywheel spins and it sounds like no compression . I'm thinking I broke the timing chain . what do you guys think and how far into it will I have to go and in what order .
Thanks John

spins freely ? What engine type ? 150 ? Broken timing chain means bent valves . Only way to truely find out what happened to it is to disassemble the engine . Could be piston issue if head is ok. Bill C.

Pull the spark plug, stick your finger over the hole and try and start the engine... it should blow your finger off the spark hole with some force...
Other than that, you need to pull the head... good time for a Big Bore Kit

Could be the start clutch is gone...have you tried to kick start it? This bypasses the starter ...
If you can kick start it, and it has compression/resistance the engine is probably OK.
What a bummer John...

I see the flywheel spinning , I would think if it is the starter clutch , I just would have lost the electric start , not stalled out on the hwy . I'm going to pull the valve cover and crank to see if the cam and valves move .
this is my busy time with air conditioning service . If there would be a place to bring the scooter to, I would pay to have it taken care of, it may have to wait till the end of air conditioning season . John

Well, that's true John, if the flywheel is turning the crank is turning; so the starter is engaging. A guy had his connecting rod and a ring go not too long ago and it made a hellatious clatter when he cranked it so I'm thinking timing chain. I've never had that experience on a scooter but a motorcycle I had snapped one and it turned with the starter just like you are describing. I think you have a good plan pulling the valve cover and looking......John? John? Where the hell are you? Oh, out on an AC call huh?

this is what I found , timing chain is good . i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/tvnacman/IMAG0241.jpgso what do you guys think broken connecting . if so what do you think new piston, rings , connecting rod , do you guys think the cylinder walls are scratched ? should I just go for a new head piston the works . The big bore kit sounds interesting the problem is I have no self control , my throttle has two positions wot or none . With the hot weather I'm thinking I will burn it out very fast . John

WOW bad meltdown...
I would replace the whole top end, cylinder, head and timing chain and piston etc...
The only other alternative which will cost more but get you running quicker is to buy a complete 'crate' engine

To have that kinda drastic effect your engine must have been running very, very lean John...

Your original cam and rockers should be OK. This looks like a case of pre-ignition probably caused by an over lean condition. I believe the links you posted are wholesale or dealer prices only. Ordering "a la carte" from MonsterGY6 came up with THIS.A stock top end with shipping for $135.90. Or this from Scrappydog for $20 less. Check our banner vendors first. You can usually get a very good deal and some give forum member discounts.
