Peace Sports 150 engine noise By turtle8 (Read 2,331 times)

This 150cc scoot has a loud, rattly, mechanical sound at high rpm (highway speed ~ 45mph). We thought it was valve train noise. I checked and adjusted the valves; the exhaust was tight. That didn't eliminate the noise. Could it be an exhaust gasket leak?

The scooter has 3,049 miles.

Could be anything...crank bearings, loose stator screws (common)

You need to take the cover off the CVT and see if it is in there...

I am thinking crank bearings now. I haven't pulled the CVT cover off yet, but I'd imagine a loose screw sound to be less rhythmic. This sound reminds me of my Dodge Neon when I had bad rod bearings.

You might be able to 'feel' if it is a crank bearing. Sometime if you pull the plug and turn the engine by holding the fan you can get a slight vibration. When they go really bad there is play in the crankshaft.

Do you think it could be the clutch slipping at high RPM...?

Might also be a loose baffle in the muffler... I have spent days trying to find those suckers!

My varitator assembly made one h#$% of a racket when the rollers needed replaced after 3800miles . Might check that aswell .

The noise is definitely coming from the area of the engine. Otherwise it runs smooth; just when you hit about 45mph, it really makes a racket. This scooter doesn't have a tach.

Try searching my posts. I had that problem once. I have a youtube video of it. Got mine fixed with some labor and lok-tight.

OK, I saw your "loud clacking" thread. If and when my friend with the scooter decides to let me do it, I'll start a tear-down to investigate. He is thinking about doing a BBK too. He did tell me that he really pushes his scooters to the max often.

I know the noise was rpm dependent and rose and fell in direct correlation to the throttle position. I can't investigate further because he took the scooter home. Next time I see him, I'll ask him to bring it back.

He parked his Peace for now and is riding his new Gator (Bali) 150 that he bought a few weeks ago. He bought the new scooter before he came to me with his sick Peace and is now looking at a 250.

Hmm a friend with too much money maybe you should just take his basket case off his hands on the cheap.

My neighbor low-balled him. The guy with the scooter felt insulted and said, he'd just have it fixed.
