The wife and I were sitting around imagining what we were going to do over the Fourth and it hit us at the same instant! Ride the Dragon's Tail in North Carolina. It's only about four hours from here and we can tow the scoots on the trailer. Sue booked us two nights at La Quinta only thirty miles from Deals Gap at $60.00/night! What a deal! The Dragon's Tail is right at the top of a beautiful mountain with something like 318 turns in just eleven miles. Here's a map:
We've decided to take the Pegasus and Sue's Silver Streak. The Peg is running absolutely flawless and Sue's Bashan is possessed by an anchient Chinese warlord that never needs repairs or maintenance. I'm scared to go near it because if I get too close a razor sharp oriental battle blade lunges out at me from underneath the centerstand. It's best to leave the unknowable be. Here's the two mighty warriors waiting to be loaded on their trailer:
Yep, you'll notice the Peg is just about naked and that's the way she's going to stay. I like my scooters naked so I can look at all the neat mechanical parts, what are they for afterall?
Speaking of naked, I had hoped to get frankie up to speed to take to the Dragon's Tail. Unfortunately the oil cooler mods are just taking longer that I thought. Here's a picture of him stripped down:
And here's a close up of where i decided to put the oil cooler. This way folks could hide it under their floorboards and still have tons of room for storage:
The last thing I'm going to do today is charge up my auxilarry power supply with air compressor, I figure that might come in handy on the trip.
Thursday I've got to get the scoots secured on the trailer. Rich

Be careful up there, I have driven it in the cage 4-5 times and this is peak season. Especially watch out for the idiots who can't hold a line and the 18-wheelers that take up both lanes in the turns. Check out Wayah Rd. and the Cherohala Skyway while you are there too!

Thanks for the tips, we'll definately check them out. I've heard about the crazy asses on that road and it's got me a little worried about my wife. I've been dodging cagers for 50 years on two wheels but Sue just started a few years ago. She's all excited about this, I hope some idiot doesn't spoil it. Rich

I'm just few hours away in Upstate South Carolina. I wish I could make that trip, but I'd rather have a partner to go with. I had thought I heard the police were cracking down on the crazies, and making sure everyone stays in their own lane.

Hope you enjoyed the ride, rich. I rode it last September on my TGB Del. 150 and that big box on the back of the Del. made the ride interesting to say the least. You do learn to be careful in the curves. The first of June past we rode in the Bryson City area, did the Road to Nowhere again, Nantahala Gorge up and back and some side trips. Rode my TGB R9 and managed curves a lot better. We plan to go back up, only 2.5 hour drive, and may ride the Dragon again. May hit the Cherahola 9sp) thos time too. in Sept..

Here's a link to the post on our ride Wolfhound. We actually got our inspiration for the ride from a post you made last fall about your ride on the Dragon's Tail. We had an awesome time and plan on going back and do it again. We want to go farther south the next time into North Carolina and explore some. Rich

Get on the Blue Ridge Parkway and head east to Asheville, NC. Or go south out of Bryson City to Sylva. All beautiful rides but watch the tunnels on the BRP. The ones we hit out of Bryson City had the asphalt in terrible condition.
