You don't need to belong to AARP to get Foremost insurance though. AARP just recommends them. I don't belong to AARP and just contacted Foremost directly after hearing that AARP recommended them. The rates will be the same whether you belong to AARP or not. No, I talked to my formost agent today regarding towing coverage. He told me that people who sign up under AARP get a discounted rate. But that they offer coverage to anyone. Part of the deal with aarp was that if aarp chose foremost (which they did), aarp members would get a discount.

Maybe I should join AARP then to see how much more of a discount I would get. At the time I just did a search on Google for motorcycle insurance and saw that AARP recommended Foremost, so I got a quote from Foremost. I was happy to see my rates almost drop in half from what I was paying Progressive. Wonder if the discount through AARP would be enough to pay their yearly dues?

I am not sure. I asked my agent what my fee would be if I hadn't gone thru AArp and he skirted around the issue. He insisted that aarp's got a cheaper rate but won't give me a quote for the same policy without AARP. (next time I call, I will be more insistent on an answer.) I have a ton of coverage, even towing and travel. If I am over 100 miles from home it even has hotel and meals. I pay 15.00 a month. which is 180 a year. You know, the best way to compare on this thread would be to post our rates. Any one else pay less?
Waayne, It probably is because aarp is cheap to join and you get a monthly magazine that has information about things that are going on in congress that affect seniors. It really is a good lobby for seniors and worth joining. AARP has effectively lobbied congress against many cuts that would have hurt seniors.

I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to compare rates. People with a lot of infractions on their driving record would probably have higher rates than people with a clean driving record. The value of the scooter or motorcycle would also make a difference. I have a dui on my driving record from 1999. My insurance agent I have with my car said my insurance will drop big time on my car next year if I keep a clean driving record. Not sure how much difference it would make on my scooter insurance, but it probably affects it some. I think the best way is for each person to get quotes from multiple insurance companies and go with what is best for them. When I had my 150cc chinese scooter, my insurance was less than it is now with my Hysoung 250cc because this scooter is worth a lot more.
But for those who want to know, my insurance premium with Foremost is $164 for a year, also includes towing, I was paying over $300 with Progressive for the exact same coverage (I'm not 100% sure but I don't believe Progressive included the towing).

wayneb, I have a totally clean driving record, I go thru AARP which is supposed to be reduced. And your foremost is less than mine. What kind of bike do you have? (I think I am being taken by foremost.)

mcalli,
My scooter is listed in my signature, a 2008 hyosung ms3-250 ($4299 retail).
This is my second year with Foremost. The first year it was only $146. When I went to my agent to cancel my insurance with Progressive, they said they carried Foremost insurance also, I didn't know that but I had already went directly to Foremost on my own. They looked it up what my insurance premium would have been through them, and it would have been a little higher going through them for some reason. The second year I went back to my agent to get the insurance through them, I like the idea of having a local agent.
Here is what I have for coverage: Part A Bodily Injury - $100,000 ea person/$300,000 ea accident Part A Property Damage - $100,000 ea accident Part B Medical Payment - $5,000 ea person Part C Uninsured Motorist - $100,000 ea person/$300,000 ea accident Part C Underinsured Motorist - $100,000 ea person/$300,000 ea accident Part D Collison - actual value less $500 deductible Part D Other than collision - actual value less $500 deductible Additional Coverages: Optional Equipment - actual value not to exceed $3500 Towing/Roadside Assistance - reasonable expense each disablement
I think these are the minimum requirements in Illinois, you might have higher coverages or a lower deductible.
I believe location can make a lot of difference with rates also. If you live in a heavily populated area it will probably be higher than if you live in a rural area.

Yep, I believe it. I will call foremost this upcoming week and be a little more aggressive.
