I've been getting a stumble at around 7,900 RPM and I tried everything to get rid of it. Finally I decided to remove the auto-enricher/auto-choke/POS that I have had a dislike for since I got the Bashan. I've always felt, for some reason, that thing was causing trouble even though it tested OK. I figured what the hell, I could always put it back on.
As I'm sure you're aware the auto-choke is on the left side of the carburetor. There's three openings involved with it's function:
Here's the air inlet on the intake side of the carb:
Here's the fuel intake on the bottom of the carb:
Here the arrow points to where the enricher circuit delivers on the manifold side of the carb. As an aside, the small orifices in the circle are where the slow circuit comes to the party:
I've heard of people using JB Weld and other hard to reverse methods for closing off this circuit, but I figured gasket material would work. I get this in sheets at the auto parts store and I use it to make gaskets with an X-acto. I just cut a small piece and placed it over the three openings:
And then screwed the enricher mount down minus the enricher:
I put everything back together and took it out for a trial run. The stumble disappeared and now I can eke out 8,200 RPM and 62 MPH with the GPS. It boinked 63 for a short time and went back to 62, I must have had a tail wind . I do notice that it pops a little when I let off the throttle until it warms up. It doesn't start with any difficulty at all. That may change when it gets colder but for now it's staying off. I guess 62 or 63MPH is all I'm going to get out of this scooter, but that's fast enough for me on 13" wheels.

Brilliant detective work, Doctor Watson, Holmes will be proud when he learns of your development.
I'm all for it, I have a recalcitrant Znen that defies all regulation, I shall employ your procedure at once.

I was amazed at how easy it was to start after I got done. I thought the thing was there for an important function but if you let it sit and idle a few minutes it runs fine. I guess it was designed for colder climates than 'Bama, or to drive us up the wall. Rich

I'm probably going to do this. I don't think I've ever really needed an enricher down here in Florida. I was thinking about trying to make a block off plate for mine, but that appears to be a much easier way to do it!
This is so easy to reverse, too!

Great pics, great writeup! I know this is an older post, but with temps getting down in the 30's now (and having a full winters use with this mod) have you had to richen up the mixture? When you start it are you feathering the throttle a little to help get her going? Why oh why couldn't they just put a simple manual choke on these like they do all brands of dirt bikes and quads?!?

Well thanks for the kind words BigCheeseStick. I'm kind of a wuss in that I keep all my scooters in a nice toasty garage, so the one without the auto-enricher isn't really affected by the cold when first starting. During the winter we may ride when it's in the upper 50's or 60's and then if it sits outside for a while without running then yes, I have to goose the throttle a little until it warms up. That doesn't bother me a bit because I find that an auto-enricher never shuts off when it should and causes the scooter to run a little hinky until that settles out. So one way or the other you have to compensate. In regards to a manual choke, I agree, I think I could handle that much of the engine management. We have a thread on manual choke conversion, here's a link to it. Rich

Yes that is a great MOD if you live where it is always warm. I believe even when the Plunger extends out it does not FULLY cut off all of the gas and air. There is still a little air and gas getting through. I put on a manual because I do need it when it gets cold here, but in the summer I never need to RETRACT the Plunger it is always in the EXTENDED position. Alleyoop

When I was a Teenager we all had trail bikes and many were 2-strokes and had automatic oil injection with a little tank you put the oil in. One day we were out trail riding when my friend's bike seized up on him. The pump for the oil injection had stopped working and he was running straight gas. We decided this was a piece of crap and removed them and just started mixing our oil in the gas tanks. My Kawasaki was still running good when I sold it 6 years later.
When I got my Dazon 50 it not have much information about fixing anything. I do have a little mechanical ability and can look at stuff and figure it out. One of the first things was trying to visually see how the carb worked and I seen this big black whatchamacallit and guessed it may be a choke, as there was not a flapper that closed over the carb throat. So, was wanting to know more about it. This thread helps me get a better look inside and it seems easy enough to remove. I may need to make a type of manual choke, here in Arkansas it still gets cold enough to need a choke. I going to check out that manual choke convert. Thanks for sharing this with excellent pictures. I can almost figure it out just looking at the pictures. Sam

60-65mph is a good safe seed on the little wheels. If there is no wind and the read is stright and open I will get to 75mph but that is enough and get back to 65 fast as the scooter is light and the wheels are small. When taking a trip I always wonder and worry about the tires, never had a problem but it is always on my mine. I ride a Honda Reflex 250cc

I not a speed demon, just want to keep the brown noses off my butt. Rather have some hill climbing power more here in the Arkansas Ozark Mountains. Tires are my biggest focus on maintenance. Over many years experience; I take my knee and press against a tire "everyday" before driving; mom's car, my truck, scooter. Car/Truck I do a sidewall press. The scooter from center tread. Over time you get the "feel" when it not right I gauge it! Then gauge for the normal seasonal changes! Not sure I staying on topic though, but, it hard not to slid a few comments from mind wondering! This interesting Thread does bring other things to mind?

I live in florida also who needs a choke down here anyway. with mine it was easier just unplugged the electrical connector to the choke... I found out it stays in the off position that way....They are a major pain in the butt...

I had four PMs asking about how the enricher works: it is OFF when current is flowing through it, and ON when the current is OFF. Look at this diagram and you'll see why the choke is on with no electricity.

That is a fact jack, so if you UNPLUG the ENRICHER it is ALWAYS feeding EXTRA FUEL. The only way to shut the extra fuel Is either put in a manual Enricher or If you have the kind of carb that the enricher holder comes off you can block the inlets and outlets OR hook it up to the battery with an OFF/ON switch. That way you can have juice going to the ENRICHER whenever you do not want the extra fuel. Alleyoop
