Fuel filter

Hi again scooter docs, I have one more question if you guys don't mind. Is it normal for the fuel filter to empty when the throttle is opened? I noticed when I had mine on the center stand and running, that when I opened the throttle to give it a good rev. the filter looks like it would empty but then fill right back up when I released the throttle. I'm thinking wouldn't this cause a problem if I was to ride near top speed for more then a few minutes? I am new to the whole scooter seen and this website has helped me a great deal. I really do appreciate all the helpful advice you guys have been able to give me. I'm hoping that this will be my last question for a while.

It is normal to have some air space in the filter. Sounds like you may have a weak vacuum to the petcock or fuel pump depending on your set-up... check your vacuum lines ...
The engine looses some suction power at higher revs and fuel flow may decrease, but this sounds like either old and tired parts or a vacuum problem...

My gas tank is below the foot board between the seat and front steering stuff, would it have a petcock or just the tank?

If the Tank is BELOW the Carb it is a FUEL PUMP it has to pump fuel UP to the Carb. If the Tank is ABOVE the Carb it is a PETCOCK gravity feed. Make sure the Fuel Line From the Tank to the Carb does not go UP and no part of the Fuel line is LOWER than the Carb. Alleyoop

As Alley said since your tank is in the floorboards you have a fuel pump, more than likely vacuum driven. Your filter shouldn't empty IMO, you could end up with a starvation problem at WOT. If all your lines are clear and the vac lines are good you may need a fuel pump. Don't panic, they're very reasonable. Rich

Is it cutting out at WOT? If not then no problem. If it is then see above.
